I did that trip in 2005 from Macon, GA and back. I did a little over 10,000 miles in just over a month. Wish I would have had more time. There is nothing like Alaska! I recommend going a little later in the year. We went left on July 4th. All so keep in mind during the summer it never really gets dark up there. Best road trip I have ever taken. I did not have a hack then.
There will be some long spaces between gas availability so pack accordingly. At least 5 gallons of carry on gas in addition to the Urals gas tank.
Carry enough oil for a change just incase you need to do any repairs that may lose oil. Spare filter too you may not find one up there.
Ural patrol has a good tool kit but add a few favorites anyway. Don't be in a hurry.

Make sure you pack some warm cloths as this time of year it is still cold up that way. I wish you a great safe trip.
thank you all for your comments and advice.
I am carrying spare fuel in a 5 gal jug and another 1.5 gal in a kolpin jr can mounted on the tub.
heated vest and grips, good thermal clothing too. I am expecting temperatures to be above zero by the time I get to Alaska.

We went in July and I was standing o snow in a short sleeve shirt. Got up in the 80s bit this time of year is much cooler. The ground up there stays froze. You will enjoy it I sure did. We did not carry any gas cans but at the time we where both on two wheels. Mostly all you can get is regular but you are glade to be able to find any gas.
Make sure you take a lot of pictures and post them please. Only problem up there if you stop for every Kodak moment you would not make 10 miles a day. All so if you get near the coast get some king crab legs. I never have seen them as big as the ones up there and they are fresh. They cut them in half so all you have to do is pull the meat out and cut it like a steak they are so big. They where about the size of my wrist and I do not have small wrists.
One other thing make sure you have camping gear as there are places for miles all you can find and many times the motels fill up fast. All so stop a Muncho lake in BC on the Alaska highway at 3G great folks and great home made bread and sweet rolls. They all so have a couple of rooms. When we got there they where just closing the restraint and the lady said sorry. I said no problem you have enough in the store will will not go hungry. The she said wait a minute we had home made lazina and have some left over. She sold that to us and half a loffe of home made bread and charge something like $6 but that was back in 05. There was so much that both of us got stuffed.
Gods speed.
I see a plan for going up. I do not see one for coming back. I am off to Colorado and Utah from Florida in May but am quite envious of the Ural to Alaska. Can someone make that a song? "U'r'all some kind of nuts to do this in what amounts to Alaska's spring. My dad is from way-up-north and he talks about the years they had summer on a Thursday afternoon in July.

Don't know if you plan on going by Hyder, Alaska, but it's a nice side trip. You can lots of bears feeding in the river. I went by there in 2001 on the way back from the Arctic Circle.
Here is a link of my map there.

I live in Anchorage. In 2011 my daughter and I rode from Anchorage to Disneyland. We went down the Alcan Hwy. It appears you are taking the Casiar Hwy. There are many fewer gas stations and stopping-in-case-of-emergency places on the Casiar. I don't know how much time you are taking to get here but I would recommend heading straight north from home so you can go through Jasper, Banff, and then Dawson Creek (the beginning of the Alaska Hwy). This route allows you to visit Muncho Lake. The best viewing of the lake is the lookout point on the north side. Be very careful when driving around the lake as the road is too narrow and the corners too sharp. You've been warned. Also in Canada, if the yellow sign says to do 15 KM around a corner - it means it (whatever the KM may be). If you take the Casiar Hwy you can go to Hyder. Then you can go to the bar and get Hyderized. Don't plan on driving afterwards (for a long time). I have much more advice about to, from, and in Alaska. Ask me anything. Also, go to www.milepost.com and buy the magazine. Then memorize it. You can email me at subterranea@juno.com. My other info should be under my username. Dan

My son and me too head north in June. So God will permit it.

Let me know if you need any information. When do you plan to arrive? What are your plans once you get here?

Thank you Dan for the info!
I will have an extra six gallons of gas with me to go with my five gallon tank on the URAL so should be able to make it just fine on the Cassiar. I plan to ride the Alcan to Dawson City on the way back. As to time, am on URAL time, about 300 miles/day tops, got about 2-3 months to do this. Between jobs right now.
My drinking days are behind me.....but hyder still sounds like an interesting stop! 🙂
Got the milepost.
I'll email you separately, just to establish commo, perhaps we can have a coffee when I am in Anchorage.....
