Ok, no hate mail!!!
We love riding our Sportster rig and have made several trips Blue ridge, Ohio River Scenic byway-Detroit, norther Illinois-Indiana and all over Arkansas. We have found like most we do not like riding the highway!! Large parts of this country are very FLAT with straight roads, northern Illinois & Indiana (no offense, I grew up there) Not to mention the plains states!! Again no offense it just makes for some very long roads!!

Anyone out there put there rig on a trailer or flatebed truck to get to a point then due loop tours from that point??

I think you could spend more time in given areas, still see alot of country then superslab to the next area!

If you have done this, did you miss the extra time on the bike? Glad to have the second vehicle?

Here is our possible trip" truck/bike to New Mexico, bike around and up to Colorado!
Superslabe truck/bike to Yellowstone, bike around.
Superslab truck/bike to Mount Ruschmore, bike around!
12-15 day trip, three-four days at each place!

Ambitiuos or insane??

We live in Arkansas!

A lot of folks trailer their rigs to destination points and day trip from a base. One of the more prolific posters here (Beemerchef) has been doing it for quite a spell. Many rigs are not well equipped for a comfortable long range tour and many venues aren't easily accessable due to weather conditions. When we lived in the Puget Sound area of Northwest Washington we would sometimes trailer rigs from the Canadian border to Northern California in the early spring or late fall. The trip along the Pacific Coast Highway can be pretty miserable those times of the year. We'd park the truck and trailer in a storage lot and enjoy a week or so of warm, dry riding in Death Valley and the southern deserts of California, Nevada and Arizona.
That worked well except for Hallowe'en of 2003 when we were coming out of Death Valley headed north on Highway 395 and got caught in the first winter blizzard on our way to South Lake Tahoe. That day South Tahoe got a record 27 inches of snow in 24 hours. We rode as far as Gardenerville, NV till the snow got too deep and that was it for a couple of days.

Go for it! You'll be glad you did.

Hi Smith883: There are several folks we both have met that trailer their rigs eithr behind a motorhome or in a toyhauler. J.R. & Avanell have for some time done just what y'all are considering, hauling their rigs to a "hub" location and traveling about, then moving to a new hub. Jena & I would consider such to make a longer trip, quite useful with limited vacation time -- but now we have 2 rigs and a "single" trailer.

Smith 883, Kathy and I first started trailering our Ural rig to ride destinations in 2005. A Ural is not much good on the freeway. Now, we have an 8X14 enclosed set up as a garage for our 2005 V-Star 1100 with Texas/Ural sidecar. Even the V-Star is only just OK on the X-way, the mileage drops way off and I just do not like riding hundreds of miles on the slab to get somewhere.

So we pull the trailer to our destination and enjoy doing day trips. Our last big trip (950 miles) was to Hot Springs, Ark. We rode the heck out of the great local roads.

Do what is comfortable for you. I don't need to prove anything to anyone about my committment to riding.

Lonnie, 27" of snow in south Tahoe, timing is everything, that had to be interesting!

Swampfox, good to hear from you, we have a light weight 16' trailer, I believe it might haul two!

abond35, Hot Springs is a great area, we will be going back!

Thanks for the response! This was a way to try and get some idea of what others do! I can pilot a rig for hours on end in interesting country but straight roads or superslab seems to beat me up and takes all the fun out of it! The back roads can be fun/interesting but they shure add the miles/time!

I really just hate the idea of missing something!!! I guess that just means another trip!

I am goning to start another thread with this but, what is your ideas on travel trailers Vs hotels??
