Hello. I have been reading various posts on trailer recommendations here. All the bikes mentioned here are super hi-fi ones. Mine is a simple Royal Enfield INT650 + Cozy Euro sidecar. I am a complete newbie (old guy with 2 corgis) that wants to hit the road with my kids.

Any trailer recommendation for Royal Enfield + Cozy Euro sidecar ? Seems like the trailers are as expensive as my bike or sidecar. Didn't realize that my obsession of being with my fur kids would be so expensive 🙂

While the sidecar is being installed, here's the info that I gathered.

Cozy Euro

Exterior Dimensions
* Length 75” / 190.5cm
* Tracking width (sidecar tire to motorcycle tire) 45 - 46” / 114cm - 117cm It depends on the mounting kit
* Height at cowl 31” / 79cm
* Height at top of windshield 48” / 122cm
* Ground clearance at axle 11” / 123cm
* Weight 200lbs. / 91kgNT
* Width of motorcycle and sidecar 69”/ 175cm. Measured on a Royal Enfield 650 INT (a bit of eyeballing) assumes that the mirrors are folded in. It will fit into a trailer whose doors are a bit narrower by turning the handlebars while loading. The width will vary depending on the motorcycle.
* Width between the motorcycle and sidecar varies, but 13-14 in. /30-36 is typical

Interior Dimensions
* Leg room from front of seat to tip of sidecar 31” / 79cm
* Leg room from backrest cushion to tip of sidecar 46” / 117cm
* Width at seat 16” / 41cm
* Trunk capacity 3.0 Cu ft.
* There is slightly less width in the front of the Euro model

The Royal Enfield Interceptor 650's key dimensions in inches are a length of 83.5 inches, a width of 31.1 inches, a height of 45.9 inches

Thank you in advance for any help.

Welcome to the forum.

There are some really nice aluminum flatbed trailers being used, and pulled with smaller SUVs.  Beautiful way to pull your rig.  Others will give you good recommendations in this regard.

I have an old Big Tex utility trailer 7' wide by 10' long.  Bought used for a good price.  It is ugly, heavy, and works.

@scott-h thank you. I don’t care how it looks, as long as it can do the job safely. Is there one here? removed link

Hi Ronnie,  You'll need a couple more posts that are moderated before the forum will allow posting a link, or pictures.

Important things from my perspective are:

  • Proper load capacity.
  • Wide enough to fit the sidecar rig.
  • Long enough that when loaded the tongue weight is correct.
  • Solid tie down points.
  • Total weight within the tow vehicle limitations.
  • Not so wide that the tow vehicle mirrors can't see around the trailer properly.

In the picture above with the yellow sidecar rig, you'll notice the rear motorcycle tire is pretty close to being centered over the trailer tires.  Sidecar rigs are very rear end heavy.  If the trailer is barely long enough to fit the rig, chances are the tongue weight is going to be too light.   I like long trailers for this reason, and also the longer the trailer the easier it is to back up.

Something else that is really nice is a device to capture the front tire, like in this article:  https://www.cycleworld.com/wheel-chocks-to-make-motorcycle-transport-easier/

Hth,

Scott

@scott-h thank you. Good lord - this seems so technical that I might as well just drive the hack from Asheville to Fort Lauderdale. I suggested that to the sidecar mechanic guy but they’re worried because I have zero side car experience.
I checked out the 6x12 trailer with ramp st U-Haul and the gate returns reduce the width from 6 for down to 5 ft or so.. my rig is at least 65” wide..

what to do?

Ronnie, I would ask for clarification.

Are you wanting an enclosed trailer, or an open trailer ?

The best open trailer is the Bear Track aluminum trailers, and for half the price of the Aluma trailers.

Several of us here have these Bear Track aluminum trailers, and for the size you need....it will cost you less than $ 3,000.

@miles-ladue I actually went to a dealer to see the bear track ones. Really lovely trailers. There, I realized that I don't have enough parking space to store it in my apartment complex. Now, I am searching for a rental from tractor supply as the 6x12 with ramp from UHAUL won't fit my rig.

Have you considered using a motorcycle transport company to get your new rig home? It's got to be less expensive than a new trailer. That would give you time to hone your piloting skills before a long ride, and to search for a used trailer. Just a suggestion.

@dedsled Thanks. That's exactly what I decided on yesterday while driving all around south florida (haha) yesterday to find an affordable option. If my fur babies don't "take" to the sidecar, I have already decided that I am replacing them with better furbabies. I got a quote of $1800 to get it from Denver, NC to Fort Lauderdale, FL. I guess that's how expensive transporting bikes with sidecars is.. without a sidecar it's a lot cheaper.

Smart move on the pro delivery service.  👍

There are a few good threads here on pups in sidecars.  Here are two with good info that will help you get a head start.

@scott-h Thank you!! I am in love with those threads. I am praying to the universe (and my pups) that they like the sidecar. If they do, we can keep traveling around the country all year long (as long as dad has wifi to work)..

@thane-lewis rallies?? What and where? It would be cool to meet some sidecar folks (of course, my kids might decide to hate sidecars).

Unlikely to hate them.  The USCA Rally for 2025 was held in Topsham, ME and LOTS of different outfits were there and very silly games.  The USCA 2026 national rally will be held in Mena, Arkansas.  EXCELLENT riding in the area and as many adventures as you care to take.  The USCA rally moves regions every year.

Link to the Rally Subforum: https://sidecar.com/forum/usca-sponsored-rally-info/ . Sometimes there are sidecar rallies that aren't sponsored by the USCA: https://sidecar.com/forum/other-events-and-rallies/ . Looks like you might be near the PeNnY Hackers rally site?

If you don't have the rig by the PeNnY Hacker rally weekend, just show up and get a feel for the culture.  It's very different from everything else motorcycle related!

@thane-lewis Thank you!!! I am in Fort Lauderdale.. scheming to move to western north carolina just for riding and paragliding (south florida sucks for those 2 and I ride horses, bikes, paraglide, dive).

Thanks for the links. I never, ever thought there were more dorks that can't stand to be separated from their animals.. Looking at the video + pics of the link in the google album.. OMG.. love it.. it's the same silliness that my diving folks and I do.. idiotic, silly stuff but we have fun..

Man!! Life is good.. now if only my kids love riding.. Paws crossed.
