I am not big on those style fairings. You get a lot of wind turbulence and not as good for the rain. The good thing about them is they are frame mounted.

I like the looks of the batwing too, but in my experience I've found the stationary fairing far superior in wind/rain protection.

I never rode one in the rain but I have rode several I have worked on and I notice much more air turbulence with the frame mount fairing. But each to their own and is why the make both.

For Jay and Jeff,
there are all kind of bearings available like mm outside, Inch inside, or inch outside and mm inside. These odd numbers you most often get from Timken (USA), SNR (French) and Koyo (Japan or Korea).
In your case the wheels nearly always take mm outside diameter and you save adapter bushings and lathe time.

Up until 2000 Harley used cone timken bearings but in 2000 they went to seal ball bearings. Now before that they used a shield ball bearing about 1966 to 1972 and before that they used roller bearing hubs I am talking about the big twins as Sporsters had different bearings. Now on touring models up till 2002 the front had 1 inch ID and the rear 3/4. In 2002 when they changed the swing are they went to 1 inch ID front and back. Now on the sidecar they ran 3/4 ID till they changed in 2009 and went to a metric bearing. Now when running the sealed ball bearing both the 3/4 and 1 inch ID bearings have the same OD.

How do I know I did a lot of research today trying to figure why the front wheel and the sidecar wheel had two different part numbers so I pulled out all my parts catalogs and started looking as well as checked online. The only difference from 2000 to 2008 between the front wheel and the sidecar wheel is the size of the bearings.

I am guessing the OD is metric as it measures about 2.047 inch which is all most 52mm or 51.9938mm.

Metric-metric 52*25*15 = #6205
metric-metric 52*25*18 = #62205
oopps I thought I would have found my odd size bearing catalogue. but all that appear are standard and machine spindle bearing catalogues.
I guess that means its urgent time to clean up the machine shop and office.

Trying to find them in internet seems to be more waste of time then to go downtown to the bearing specialists who often have them right on stock.

My parts books says the OEM part numbers are 9267 3/4 ID, 9247 1 inch ID and 2009 up 9276. I have a new set of the 1 inch bearings 9247 which are OEM in the Harley package. I measured the OD of them and they are 2.047.

I will be selling my machines in about 6 months after I get done build several motors for customers.

If you can afford it I recomend to keep the smaller size machines and tooling. The big iron doesn't help much for personel use.
But the small ones can become very handy and help out. Some oil and an occasional cloth wipe are all they call for. They do not need fooder or a veterinarian as other work horses.
That is the reason I keep my shop although its just for personel pride and resorce for eventual spleeny ideas.

Harley s web site. I have one of these but do not have the 25mm as when I bought mine they had not come out with the metric 25mm bearing yet.

My problem is the day is coming I will not have a place to keep them. My machines are basically engine machines other then my lath. I am going to keep my lath as my dad bought it when he graduated collage may years before I was born.
