Hi all, have been lurking for awhile reading the posts, gained some info. Question I have is, I have a 77 naked Goldwing, I have found an older Velorex 562, how compatible do you think that sidecar would be? Sidecar price is very good. By the way this site is great!

Many of the early 562's have been attached to GL's.
The weak point is the light suspension and the 15mm axle. The heavy bike will have a tendency to wallow in the turns since the early 562's were designed 350cc to 500cc motorcycles of a much lighter weight than the GL's.
The light weight of the sidecar (154#) can be overcome by adding ballast up to 100#, preferably placed at the rear, attached to the frame. Second choice is low in the trunk behind the seat. If putting it there be sure and use soft ballast that will not fracture the fiberglass lower body shell if it moves around.

I have a retrofit bolt on Heavy duty suspension available for the early 15mm axle Velorex's. A swing-arm with 1" axle that uses timken bearings, a modular wheel and flat tread automotive tire.

I've put several Velorex hacks on GL1000's. Its a fine match. I have also found that getting TWO shocks to mount where the factory only mounted one shock isn't difficult. That helps with the wallowing, but be aware of that small diameter axle. Nab a pair of take off japbike take off shocks to use on the sidecar swingarm to reduce the wallow.

In stock form the early Velorex isn't too good on a GL1000 for reasons stated by Lonnie. We have done and still do modifications to them to make them work very well on almost any bike. Plated frame, torsion bar suspension, car or trailer wheel and tire, tilt adjustor and so forth. You do not have to go to this extent though. Lonnie probably has more experience than anyone here in dealing with Velorex sidecars. His advice is spot on as a good place to begin. From that point one can go a lot farther in making a Velorex do a super job but how far will depend on the individual and what type of riding he or she does.

Thanks for the info. The owner sent me some more pics of unit, looks like 75%of the hardware mounting is missing, and also looks like part of the frame under the body is gone this would be the frame closest to the bike side running parallel, I could be wrong but it also looks like a rear strut is coming out of the side of the body? I thought all velorex 562 frames were basically rectangular?, and under the body.

If the frame seems to be inside of the body the lower mounts slip into tubes at the bottom of the body and the upper struts are going through the body itself, it sounds like you have a Motorvation Spyder sidecar. Got pix?

If you don't snatch it up how 'bout posting the seller info here in case someone else wants a stab at it. BTW, I think a Spyder is a much better match for yer 'Wing than a Velorex.

Of course it'd be a good match for my Shadow... 😉

Definetly its not a Motorvation. The pics are not very good. I had to magnify and probably lost some quality. Don't know how to post a pic though

The pics that Hack'n posted are of a Motorvation, I'm saying the pics that the guy sent me are not the same ones Hack'n posted. The guy that I'm talking about has them posted on Craigslist San Francisco. I would post them here but I don't know how.

This is an early model Velorex 562E (Euro) model.
The frame looks intact, however the mounts are not all there. The mounts are available for this car.
Without accessories and an interior I'd guess it's about $1,000.00 rough if the body is undamaged.

Yes Joyce that would be the one. So I guess $500 is not to bad of a price. Why is it that all the good sidecars are in the midwest or east coast. Don't see to many on the west coast for sale.
