I have an 09 Harley with a Liberty sidecar which I really like. I have almost 6,000 miles on the sidecar and the sidecar tire is almost worn out. This is the tire that came on the new Liberty SC. It is a Dunlap Harley Davidson 408f 130/70B/18. I run 28 LBS and am not a fast or hard rider. My wife does ride with me, however, most of the miles are solo or with my 40 LBS dog. Is this normal mileage on a sidecar tire? I would add Liberty installed the sidecar on my HD and it drives great, could not ask for better handling. P.S. I have just ordered a Dunlap Elite III, same size for replacement.

Thanks for any input. Sam

I didn't get much mileage out of the 408 tires either. I found the front tire hydroplaned in wet conditions and neither it nor the sidecar tire lasted over 8K miles. I'm using the earlier Dunlop Elite IIIs on the bike front and sidecar and a 195/55/16 Hankook on the rear of the bike. No more hydroplaning and they are holding up better.

good luck!,..Ive got about 15000 miles on my BFG and it still looks new, found I had to run a little softer air presure to ease the ride,..very happy with the results to,...and much cheaper, cheers crawf.

I wet down the shop floor and run the loaded rig through it then adjust the air pressure till I get a full tread pattern tire track. With my FLHX it's 28 psi. 8K miles on the Hankook so far and no appreciable wear. The Elite IIIs are holding up better than the 408s too.

No bearing problems. The '09 up FLHs have a bigger axle than the earlier Harleys which also had no excessive problems with sidecars with a 3/4" axle and bearings.
Your Escort is much lighter than the Harley TLE sidecar.
