Just wondering what you guys do. I'm trying to figure out what is the best route to go for my 3yr old son. I was first going to mount a car seat in there but he's out grown them and is now in booster seats. I would like more than just a lap belt for him... some sort of shoulder harness would be great, but there is no structure to mount a top bet to. So I'm looking for ideas.

An inexpensive racing seat (Summit Racing.com) would have a high back with holes for 5way harness if desired. For a child there are shoulder strap wheelchair harnesses available that work fine for holding a toddler upright and in position. Several of our clients with handicapped children have used these setups in their sidecars.
