This year is the 100 year anniversary of the Isle of Man TT. Our very own 2002 US sidecar champion Wade Boyd has been racing there for 14 years (mostly racing solo, but also as sidecar passenger). He has been a flag bearer for American motorcycle road racing across the pond. Due to a vast increase amount of entries this year (for the anniversary) somehow the IOM committee denied Wade entries into the IOM TT. Wade is planning to race in four classes this year. He is among one of seven regular riders that were denied entries.
For those in northern California, especially those in racing and also various motorcycle groups and clubs (SFMC, SC Vampires, etc.), Wade is a true legend and inspire more than one generation of racers and motorcycle enthusiast. I myself was coached by him and also having to learn by working on his sidecar when I first started racing sidecars..as do a lot of younger sidecar racers of my generation.
Wade is the perfect example of what being a privateer and a sportsman is all about. He raises funds through donations and many fund raising parties throughout the year, only to save just enough money to do the TT each year with beaten up equipment. Ironically this year he finally got a sponsor that provides him with a brand new racing bike...only to be denied entry. Unlike most racers going to the TT is merely a ferry ride, Wade has to organize well ahead for the trip from San Francisco to the Isle of Man. Imagine what a logistical challenge it is to ship the bike.
IOM TT has always been about privateers, and not about big money sponsors. This is a unique sporting event and without Wade this year IOM TT will not be the same.
At last count, Wade have 1600 signatures...adn the TT is only a month away.
We need as mnay signatures as possible to convince the Manx MC to reverse its decision.
