Perry's sidecar mounting system
Hi,
I have been researching various parts/methods in my endeavor to hang a Dnepr on my '78 R80/7 and I came across Perry's Sidecars in Ft. Worth Texas. I called him asking about triple trees, but he told me he sells an entire sidecar mounting kit for a very reasonable price. Very nice gent and very knowledgeable.
He was pretty adamant that his system doesn't require a subframe, which I've heard just about everywhere else is absolutely necessary. He doesn't have any detail pics up on his site though and I'm having trouble envisoning exactly what he was trying to explain to me.
I'd much rather fork over the dough to Mr. Perry than start cutting up greasy steel in my basement, not to mention all the home engineering and trial and error I'd be going through.
Does anyone out there have a Perry system attaching their car to an old airhead? How is it holding up? Does it handle the stress? How does his triple tree work? Is it true there's no need for a subframe?
Photos are greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Jim
Perry Bushong has been a sidecar specialist for years and was the previous owner of Ft. Worth BMW. He is not an advocate of the full sub-frames on the Beemers. He prefers his own bracketry which he has developed through the years.
A highly recommended sidecar mounting bits vendor and sidecar rigger.

He also was a Ural dealer for years, so he does have quite a bit of experience in various rigs. Never heard anyone here locally complaining about him or his advise.
Hay Jim,
I have the same setup as yours and had Perry put mine together, I'm local. He did a great job and yes I would recommend him.
He definitely knows his stuff and has made a number of home grown bits that are quality adapters.
Thanks for the replies. Does anyone have any pics of Perry's setup? Does he tie the frame together above the battery? Does he utilize the motor mounts? Where is he fastening at the back? It seems to me without a subframe there's not much space between struts front to back if he's attaching at the passenger footpeg bracket and the top of the rear frame loop. I was going to use a lower subframe piece extending beyond the passenger peg that would allow for another lower attachment and then another strut back up to a vertical bar alongside the rear frame loop. Is this just overkill? I was trying to get some triangulation.
