parts?
where can i get parts for a 1981 jawa velorex and can i make it hook up to a 2002 harley dyna?

Looks like my old velorex the mounting hardware should still be the same as the new ones . I printed thier installation instructions of the website www.velorexusa.com
http://www.velorexusa.com/Instruction_pdf/install_instructions.pdf
I have the right mounts. The 2002 Dyna doesn't use the Velorex "Universal" mount kit.
I'm a Velorex dealer.

Yeah what Lonnie said. I got some ideas from his post (I think) about the forward controls being blocked by the front upper bar. He had a picture where they bend and sometimes lengthen the tube section. It works great I only bent mine and it works .
If you hook it up to a dyna you'll need lots of ballast!
I use about 70# with the Dyna/Velorex rigs. Frame mounted or soft ballast in the trunk.
We've done a bunch of them.

can i buy the mounts from you? if so how much and do you have a company name or web site?
Yes,
Email me at nwsidecar@aol.com or call 208-629-8409.

I would not consider this to be a safe match up. The Velorex sidecar is way to light duty for a bike as large as yours, while people have gotten away with it. It does not leave enough saftey margin and while we do offer bike specific mounts for your bike, we would decline the sale as saftey must come first.

Jay doesn't like Velorexs so there is a possibility he may be a bit biased.
Here are three of my personal rigs that my wife and I toured in the US and Canada for several thousand miles.

Not true, I like Velorex sidecars and have owned one on an MZ sliverstar gespanne. They are great little sidecars for little bikes. We also mount from time time Velorex sidecars, I have no issue with Velorex sidecars on the proper sized bikes provided you do away with the stock Velorex mounts which tend to slip.
While some people have ridden way to large bikes with Velorex sidecars and gotten away with it, Others have not. I know of at least one person who is now dead due to a Velorex sidecar being professionally mounted on to large of a bike.
At DMC sidecars we put saftey ahead of sales which is why we would decline selling mounts for this aplication.

Dynas only go about 170 punds more than my Sporty. Now I wouldnt put it on my wifes Ultra cause it weighs in around 800 pounds.. I have been looking at some dynas myself to get some more HP and a new ride .
There is more to it then how heavy a bike is, How high the weight is also makes a difference and even how heavy the rider is and if they will ever have a passenger on the rear of the bike as thier weight also adds into the overall equation and while you might get away with the dyna with a lighter rider and no passenger on the bike assuming you never have to make evasive manoeuvers what happens if some one else rides the bike, say you sell it and the new owner is a heavier rider that will have a passenger on the rear of the bike as well as the sidecar. So you now have a heavy bike, with two heavy riders on the bike, when you make a left hand turn a lot of weight is being transfered onto the sidecar, its mounts, frame, suspesion, wheel and axle. You must build to the worst case senerio. Even in Lonnies photo's you can see from the first two photo's that he upgraded the wheel, tire and axle from what is shown in the last photo. If this is good match up, why the up grade?

The later Velorex models on the 2003 and 2008 bikes have the newer Velorex upgraded adjustable suspension. The '91 FRRSP had an early (pre 2005) Velorex which had the 15mm axle and was designed for the 500 JAWA and MZ motorcycles. To support this bike I added my propriatery suspension upgrade kit (worked great even with the 280# Canuck aboard in the picture) and 75# of ballast. I bought the bike from him as a solo and added the hack
The later Cruiser Models of Velorex have the 20mm axles and upgraded suspension, swingarm and adjustable shock. They and the Touring Models have bigger wheels too and the Touring models all have a triple tube reinforced frame and wider wheel with 130x90x16" tire to support late model Cruiser bikes.
We still don't recommend the Velorexs for use with the big baggers and heavy Cruisers.
I don't know of any manufacturer who will recommend putting two heavyweights on the bike and noone in the sidecar. Do you?
I always recommend that tha driver has a heavy sidecar or enough ballast to offset the bike load.
Common sense is always a good addition to any sidehack/ pilot combination. As is knowledge, training and experience.
And that's the end of the story.
Happy trails, See ya in Couer d'Alene,
Lonnie
