Old Ural, New Ural or DNEPR?

Huey was so hamstrung about whether or not to purchase a Ural that the folks on the Russian Iron board and the Ural board were taking up a collection to buy him one.
WOW! Think that would work for me? I could start now if it would help!
I'd even be diligent in whining if I thought people would contribute. Any cash left after the purchase I'd contribute to a beer fund for all those that chipped in!
For your daily commute, I'd say a Ruskie bike is would make it more enjoyable.
It appears you are from Washington, and as such you have better options than most of us. First, I think Ural NW of Bellingham could probably undercut any Ural dealer in the USA on prices. They actually fly people out to pick up their Ural (mandated by the Ural factory) and still manage to lop off $500-$800 off MSRP. So, if you save 'em the cost of a plane ticket, you should really make out like a bandit.
A second option is a RAMCO Dnepr from LLoyd in Seattle. He is the only EPA/DOT certified importer/manufacturer of Dneprs in the USA. His stuff is top shelf from my understanding. However, even one of his Dnepr's is probably no match for a new Ural on the highways (off-road is probably a different story).
And if you truly are a mechanical genius, you could go for a CJ-750. You can still get unissued military SV flathead rigs from the 1970's with about 100km on them for about $1500 and about $1000 more to get them out of China. Not really recommended for a 110 mile daily commute. Or you can upgrade to a 750cc OHV motor for a little more, but I wouldn't do it every day on any CJ.
And yes, they are great in the snow, even 1WD like my K-750's. I actually used to look forward to snow days while in Germany. You can drive as fast as everyone else, and good brakes or crappy brakes: it's all the same in the snow. No one will ever question your sanity again...
I actually bought ane a couple of weeks ago. found it used at
a price that was too god to allow me to wait until I sell my
sportbike (even my accountant wife said we shouldn't pass up
the opportunity.
Friday I entered the Ural (2006 Gear-Up) in a car/bike show
at my work. It even gets a lot of attention in the company of
custom choppers and classic cars.
1st place!
I felt a little guilty... there were a couple of nice custom bikes.
It reminds me of when I watch "American Hotrod" and some guy
will spend over a hundred thousand dollars on a car to win trophies
with. I can't help but think "What's the point?"
If you built it yourself, I could see where you might be proud
to win a trophy... but to win a trophy for just spending money,
that is not a big achievement.
Next year I'll build a machine gun replica and a small military trailer...
Here's a picture with the trophy...
(notice the black painted valve covers... musta made the difference, eh?)
Cool beans, the pic kinda reminds me of when mine was stock. It's been morphing almost since day 1.
Hmmmmm, see if this works....
worked over here......cool rig,
let's go try an get stuck......
put it in 2nd and wick it
Got a few more for you here...
