Nighthawk S + Sidecar + Dogs?
Hi Everyone,
First post here.
The only regret I have about being a motorcycle nut is not being able to take my dog (soon to be dogs) along. The obvious answer is to get a sidecar rig.
I have a 1986 Honda Nighthawk S that should be running again soon. I've read that this bike makes a great mount for a first time sidecar rider. I do have a couple of questions, though.
What is the smallest sidecar that two fairly large (65 to 80 lbs. each) harnessed dogs can fit in comfortably, and will a Nighthawk S pull this sidecar? Obviously, the rig wouldn't accelerate worth crap, but it would just be for cruising, and it would rarely see the highway. I could take one dog at a time, but that would be half the fun.
Yeah, yeah, I read the post that said to get a girlfriend rather than take a dog in a sidecar. I also read the reply about why a dog is better! 🙂
Thanks.
Our 562C Velorex is a good match for the Nighthawk and mounts easily.

Thanks, Lonnie.
The Velorex looks like what it would do. How about fitting two dogs into it? It looks like they might fit better with the seat yanked and some sort of pad installed instead. Opinions, anyone?
I have a Velorex and the set comes out real easy and gets the dog lower in the car. I use an old boat pad.
Did that for Archie on both rigs. Pulled the seat cushion and created a bed the length of the car. Worked well. I'd take his bed out and put the seat back in and the windshield on for the grand kids or any other people type passengers. Arch never liked riding with a windshield was the reason for pulling it off on both the Ural and the Liberty. He wore the Doggles very well so it was no big deal to not have the windshield.
Beautiful. That sounds like the way to go. I need to take a no BS look at the Nighthawk S now to see if I can get it running as easily as I hope I can.
Thanks for the help.
