Newbie says hello......
Hi Group,
I'm Barb, and I'm brand new here, although a veteran rider. I have 327 miles (carefully counted) on my latest combination: a 1977 Yamaha XS650 twin and a mid-1960's "Spirit of America Sport Sidecar".
I don't know much about the chair, but it came from a Harley, and it took me weeks to modify the mounts to fit my bike. Previously I had a home-made (and very ugly) sidecar on the same bike. I'm quietly looking around for a suitable sidecar for my Triumph, but it's not urgent---I still have things to do to the one I've got.
Let's see--I'm a proud Gramma, whose granddaughters love sidecar rides, and would pretty much live on a motorcycle if I could. I call my bikes "The Shed Girls (& big John)", and spend quite a bit of time in the shed, since I've retired.
I'm in northwestern Washington State, and if anyone is interested in sidecar rides, I'm certainly ready or will get that way!
Thanks, (now we'll see if my auto-sig works!)
Welcome to the madness, Barb.
There are a few more sidecarists near you. We set up quite a few hacks in the area during the 20 years we had our shop in Marysville. About the only time we would see more than 1 or 2 on the road at a time was during the Oyster Run which started around 1982 with 8 bikers heading to Bow/Edison to have some fresh oysters and is now the largest Motorcycle gathering in Washington State now held in Anacortes on the first Sunday in October.

Northwest Sidecars
It may be a bit of a long ride for ya, but there is
the yakima un-rally this weekend at the yakima Koa
if you'd like to meet other sidecarist in washington.
Hello Barb, Nice stable of bikes, (My eldest daughter has a 1969 B44 Victor). Welcome to the world of sidecaring. The sidecar event at Yakima at the KOA this weekend would be a great chance to meet fellow enthusiasts.
On the job, I go up to the Skagit Dams often. Beautiful country for solo and sidecar riding. You live in an ideal area and with the third wheel you'll be able to get more winter driving in.
Enjoy!
Hi Guys,
The Oyster Run! I pretty much show up every year, but for the last few years I was on the back of a friend's Harley, and I prefer my own bike! (independent ol' broad...) The ride over east has come and gone--have to do that next year. And of course, I'll be at the Oyster Run this Fall on the Yammie/sidecar---unless the Triumph is complete by then, in which case I have a problem....I really love the Triumph, but prefer a sidecar bike.
Next week I'm going to Montana on the bike for my Father's 89th birthday, so that will be 1000 round-trip miles on the combo. That should be a good shake-down cruise!
Anyway, thanks for the welcome! (Any other women hanging around?)
Ride Safe(ly)!
Hi Barb,
When you head for the Big Sky state to celebrate with your Dad, you going to stick to the super slab all the way or hit US2 or other byways? If you happen to come through the Davenport/Reardan area just west of Spokane and have time or are ready for a break, give me a shout and we'll have a cup o' coffee. 796-4850.
Hi Tom,
Thanks! I think I'll be on the Slab going over, but on the trip home I'll be taking it easier, and Hwy 2 is much nicer over here---coming out north of Seattle is so much better than having to go through Bellevue and all that mess up Hwy 405. Unless I'm going through very early or late, I'll try to give you a call...probably I'll need a break about then anyway!
I appreciate it!
I kinda like taking Highway 2 to Monroe then 203 south to pick up I-90 at North Bend. That eliminates Both Seattle and Bellevue.
