Hello everyone From North Dakota.I just sent in my membership dues and thought I should introduce myself.I have been interested in sidecars for a while. I have had motorcycles and in 2004 built a VW trike. I also have a soft spot in my heart for single cylinder motorcycles. I have a GN 400 Suzuki and will be getting my old 1978 Yamaha SR 500 back from my son this April. I was thinking that the singles would make a good unit for a small car.I retired in Oct.this year and really enjoy building things and so I thought I would give building a rig a try. So am I nuts? I hope not. I also enjoy camping with the wife(and riding partner) and we are going to try to combine our love for Bluegrass with the rally in South Dakota in June. That way I will get to check out rigs and listen to good music. I won"t have a sidecar but hope to bring the SR 500 with to ride.Hope to meet some of you this summer. Later John B

Welcome to the World of Sidecaring. Most everything with two wheels someone has put a sidecar on it. Are you nuts? If your not don't worry we train.

Welcome to the slightly off-center world of sidecaring, John!

The question isn't "are you nuts?" But rather "Are you nuts enough!?" Likes Richard said. We will train!

Hi John B:
Welcome to the eccentric world of sidecaring. I am your regional director and I and my brother are co-chairing the Monumental Rally in the Black Hills. We will be glad to meet you. If you have any questions - either about the rally or sidecaring be sure to ask. If I don't know the answer I will make something up - which will trigger all sorts of corrections from the other members of the forum.

Hi J.W.:
We will be looking for you. We are praying that the creek don't rise too. We have at least one other WY guy. (Gillette)

The SR500 has enough torque for a modest sidecar but I personally wouldn't put one on it. The SR 500 carries it's engine oil in the frame.
A sidecar puts extra stress on frame components. A minor crack in a frame can be a major problem.

That is true about the SR but I would think with good mounts it would be ok, and if not I have a GN400 Suzuki single that might be up to the task.I am not thinking on a very big car in either case. Something for riders under 150 lbs or less and mostly around town.If worse comes to worse I also have an older 1200 Honda Goldwing that if it runs as good as the old owner said would be able to do the trick. But thanks for the heads up on the frame.

Welcome from the sunny south. 80 degrees yesterday,50's today. o figure. I have a cap that reads,I used to be unbalanced, then I got a sidecar. This pretty well suns it up. I personally think that anyone that goes outside when it is under 40 degrees is nuts. You should fit right in with this bunch. Welcome

Welcome, and there is nothing like a brisk ride to work in the morning, better than a cup of coffe to wake you up.
