Drapes them artistically as you do.
Heading this morning to Wellstead Bremer Bay museum.
Lots of pioneer stuff and old motors.Β

I was having trouble last night loading pics.
Very little mobile reception and slow internet.

The upside is it's soon peaceful and beautiful scenery.Β
My sister had to detour over east with floods on her way home here.
Here yesterday we had a half hr detour because of fires. The kicker was the drizzling rain at the time???
The Lanz Bulldog had special meaning to me. 1951 model.
It was identical to the one dad bought in Victoria 60 yes ago and shipped on the train to Western Australia so he could clear his 2000 acre bush block.
10.3 litre 2 stroke diesel that is pre heated with a blow torch then started by handΒ turning the flywheel.Β Did it easily as a kid.
I last drove it as a 13yr old clearing scrub with a heavy chain between it and an AW7 international my older brother drove .
We went down into a gully and snagged a big stump going up the other side.
Stalled the Bulldog which rolled backwards down the hill with the engine running in reverse.Β
(2 stroke diesels can do that trick)
Me a scrawny kid heaving on the steering wheel with one foot on the clutch and the other on the brake to no avail.Β
So here we are in the gully,Β engine pop popping happily backwards?
What to do?
I revved to the Max (900rpm?) Then shut the throttle completely. That gave plenty of time to jump down and pop the cover from the flywheel.
And wait for it with a hand on the manual fuel pump handle.
As it almost stopped I gave a pump.
It kicked back forwards again followed by some more pumping to pick up some revs.
That gave enough time to run around and open the throttle up again.Β
Next was run back and put the cover on the flywheel then back to driving laughing like hyena at what I had just pulled off.
Still don't know how I got the timing right 1st up.
Taking of was an exercise as well.
You rev it up enough not to stall and slip the clutch same as a normal engine but the results are more exaggerated so to speak.
Lots of pop pop popping then blaaat....... blaaat.....blaaat. as it all but stalls and the momentum of the massive flywheel overcomes the inertia of a heavy machine along with that massive cast iron piston.
Loved that tractor.
They have other tricks as well.
On a cold morning start up they blow smoke rings high in the sky.
And never leave one idling on soft ground.
Not done it but that big piston rocks the machineΒ back and forth enough to bury itself apparently.Β
