Some of you will remember what a lap robe is for those of you that don't know it's a robe that goes over your legs and waist area and is secured to the bike so that it stays there when you get off and on, that being said does anybody have a source for one, if you Google "lap robe" you get a bunch of little old ladies knitting sites.

Multiple posts at the IMZ site on them and a source or two. I have never used one or want to be where it is cold enough to do so. Seems there are at least two suppliers, but only one that folk who use such recommend.

Langlitz Leathers is the #1 source and one recommended by folk in the know:

Scooter Skirts: May or may not work ok. Looks a bit cheap.

I found a picture of a Kaw Drifter once, that had an english riding saddle as the seat on it. I don't know where I misplaced the pic though. Any rate, add a saddle and a pair of chaps and you got a real Texas looking rig. Probably as effective as the lap robe with the cowboy chaps, but one never knows. I don't think they make a DOt approved cowboy hat though, so a good lap robe is likely a better investment against the cold. 🙂

The scooter skirts look like something the car mechanic uses as a fender pad for working on cars with. The other brand is not as cheap, but I have never, never seen any negative comments on them from those who opt to have such. Me, I am just glad it ain't that cold in my part of Texas.

Whooo Hooo! Found photo and attached it if this thing works correctly. Go Kawboys! 🙂

I sent a email to Langlitz today and got a reply, I was really surprised, Langlitz has been around a very long time so they must be doing something right, the old time lap robes were made of sheep skin with the wool inside, must have weighed a ton. I live in the sticks at a 2000' elev and travel 50 mi to work, it will be cold as heck here but 20 or more deg's warmer at my destination, I've got warm pants but there a hassle and I don't have any place to store them so a lap robe would be nice,,,if it will work on my bike, hopefully it will but there might be some ex. pipe issues on my Shadow 1100T Classic.

These were very popular with motor officers as were the hand protectors up until the 60's. I guess heated clothing and handgrips and full fairings made them obsolete.

Maybe they would make a comeback if we called them Lap Fairing.
