IBA (Iron Butt) Sidecar Ride??
Who knows anything about an IBA sidecar challenge next summer? I'm interested. If anyone is planning something please let me know.

There's been some speculative talk about doing a Coast to Coast lower 48 states run next summer by some VERY ambitious people:

I'm not at all familiar with IBA sanctioned events so....is there even a sidecar category in the IBA? If so, because of the inherent limitations of operating sidecars relative to 2 wheeled, are the distances reduced because of the SDF?
Illegitemi non carborundum est!

@floyd - h, the previous discussion regarding having a Sidecar ride from Coast to Coast, or Border to Border, did not include anything about the proposed ride being IBA sanctioned or approved. Having been a member of the IBA for the past 41 years, I would not be inclined to get IBA approval or sanctioning for such a ride. Doing so would require too many rules, regulations and requirements on sidecar rigs and the owners, which are already on the fringe of the motorcycle community.
If we were to go through with a sidecar ride like this, the less official oversight, the better.
The IBA certainly allows members of the IBA, and prospective members of the IBA to use motorcycle sidecar rigs to participate in almost all of the current IBA sanctioned and approved IBA rides. Just do the ride, provide your paperwork for approval, and receive your certificate.
However, if we do this sidecar ride next Summer, it will not be an IBA sanctioned or approved event.

Thane & Miles - Thanks for the info. Don't think I'd be interested in a coast - coast ride. If anyone wants to do a sidecar IBA Bun Burner I might be interested. I got my IBA Saddlesore certificate several years ago on two wheels and have always thought of going the next level for the Bun Burner.

I rode the 3flags, which is sanctioned by the scma, a couple of years ago. I did it without a sidecar. But there were a few sidecars in the bunch. I did it for my 80th. I am now 83 and am thinking ahead to doing it again for my 85th. This time with a sidecar.

Planning a Canadian Coast to Coast to Coast -- Tofino to Tuktoyaktuk to Cape Spear in one summer.. I highly doubt it will be an IBA thing or even on their radar, it's just a thing I want to do. I've been to all three places just never in the same summer..

MGV8, how many klicks would that be???? Inquiring minds want to know... your CC2C2C?

CCjon @jan-2, the answers you seek are:
12,071 kilometers from Tofino to Tuktoyuktuk to Cape Spear....however, if you include his home location as the Start and Finish of this monumental ride, then.......
17,994 kilometers from his home in Canoe, B.C., to Tofino, to Tuktoyuktuk, to Cape Spear, and then back to home in Canoe, B.C.
Would you like to know exactly how many Tim Horton's coffee and donut shops are on this route ?
BTW, that 17,994 Kilometers equates to 11,156 miles.

Brian, I used a 3 sided slide rule that I found in my desk, last used in 1978.

Of course Miles has probably figured the most direct routes, something I am not usually doing, pretty sure I could make it longer 🙂 My xCanada route to Cape spear from Home and back was 16900 K. That included the Trans Lab but not going up to Tuk. Of course another interesting route would be a 4 corners Canadian ride, for me of course. North and West would be easy as they are close together. Tuk and the border crossing on the Top of the World Highway into Alaska, then Cape spear for most East and Point Pelee in Southern Ontario for most South. As far as Tim Hortons, it would be = to the number of towns you rode through + 1. Even the suburb of little old Canoe has three. 🤣

I read somewhere the IBA provides the opportunity to submit a ride plan for their consideration.
Being more of a CBR, I've never looked into how the IBA works.
Hold my keyboard and watch this! 🙃

@scott-h Though I marvel at the Iron butt people, Gal won this year I think? And I have friends who have done rides I have no desire to record any of my own. I am such a Flibberty Gibbet when I ride, recording it would be a pain in the butt for me and any one with me 🤣
