HD and the EPA
It's not something that is plastered all over the HD site, no, but since '04 all Touring and Softail models have catalytic converters in the exhaust, albeit on the right side muffler only. This was voluntary and not forced by the EPA.
As for my previous statement about '06 Harleys, it seems I missed a critical word... from pg E-16 of my '06 Dyna owners manual comes this info: "All international motorcycles are equipped with catalytic converters". Apparently this does not include the Dyna and Sportster models for the domestic market, but from what I've been able to gather from talking to service reps they will be installed on all models by '08.

Yeah, you're right. The Motor Company doesn't sell at a loss like all other bike MFG'rs. do.That's why nobody buys them, right?Lonnie
I have to be very careful, it seems, when making any statement about HD, so, suffice to say, maybe Honda, Yamaha and Suzuki sell at below the manufactured cost to promote a model (maybe), but Guzzi, Triumph, Ducati and other European manufacturers, to the best of my knowledge, never take a beating on their bikes

Check Cycle World mag. Page 54 HD is coming out with a 96 cubic inches in 2007.
Never read the rags, buy the bike. Ninety Six Cubic Inches....My R3 has One Hundred Forty Seven Cubic Inches. They got a long way to go....
To me Harley bashng is for children. Who really gives a damn how fast an R3 is? If I wanted one, like most people I would buy one. Actua;;y, would get a new ZX 14 (gonna call Hannigan's tomorrow re: geeting a SC on one).
I bought Harley stock 20 years ago. Keep telling yourself about the millions of bike riders who somehow don't have a clue, but you do.

This may be true, but lately I'm seeing that the same people who look down their noses at "Riceburners" and "krautbikes" and all the derogatory names they give everything else. are the ones that whine Harley Bashing, when you comment that you didn't like a color scheme on one. I seldom go anywhere that someone in a black T-shirt doesn't say something like, "I'll bet you can't wait to put that sidecar on a Harley". But that we're supposed to put up with and keep our mouths shut. I think everybody is getting a bit thin skinned. He's supposed to listen to people trash his Triumph but isn't allowed to say anything?
If you want to talk bashing and "mechanical racism", some of the Harley folks take the prize. So it's not surprising to hear them whine like stuck pigs when presented with the facts, not prejudice, about their chosen brand. Over three decades of riding I've received plenty of catcalls, insults, and downride unprintable "language" from Harley owners. I've also seen racist hate literature posted and left undisturbed on the bulliten boards of Harley dealerships right within sight of dealership employees. So it's not surprising to hear a few Harley true believers whine when we confront them with the realities of HOG's price gouging and poor customer service.
Fortunately there are some good folks out there riding HOG products that make up for the lemmings and their prejudices.
I would not call injecting reality, bashing. I would call bashing ignoring the truth. All Hd accessories are made in Taiwan as far as I know, been that way since at least 1988. The plain truth is Honda and Porsche designed the evo engine that brought HD back from the brink. As far as market genius they are the top. Any one who does not know that HD is a Chinese M/C with an American badge is kidding them selfs. And they need a bunch of maintenance if you ride 'em. Not my place to tell any one what to do with their Money. All M/C are created equal in my world.
We all have our preferences. I'm happy there are a lot of bike styles to choose from, aren't you?
Why not move on to something more productive, informational or interesting now?

This is getting almost as fun as 15" tires and rims

how about what oil is best?
HEE hee!
good for another 40 posts...or more
We can do the oil thing as long as we don't diss someone else's choice and call them a dumb Sh*t.
OK?
I use Amsoil 20/50 in my personal rides cause it's slick and I only need one type for all oil applications.
Lonnie
Hack'n:We agree on something. That's good. Amsoil for me too. Even the lawnmower. The farm tractor are an exception. At 15 gallons a change, I can't afford 8 bucks a quart.
