my wife gets in by using the step and grabbing my hand. she gets out by sitting on top of the seat and sliding off over the fender. if her back is sore she gets in by sitting on the fender and swiveling into the tub.

it does scuff the fender a tiny bit - but its plenty strong and works just fine. when we stop for gas she just pops up and sits on the back of the seat.

Thanks fellas! I'll try out the tips with my passengers!

and the dash...........still deciding about what to do. Oh well, I thought it was pretty, that's why I bought it 🙂

As of now I am going to use the HD when I drive, and the Yamaha if I have to be a passenger.

i never use the speakers - just headsets

so i made a custom dash that holds all the electronics - plus a power port for the game boy and power for the heated suit.....

2" high

My plains are to move the head set plug for the rear seat over to the other side when my riders in the side car can plug in and be able to push the pit button on the arm rest on the sidecar side. I am sure before it is all over with I will all so have a power port on the hack for a game boy or something like that for the grandchildren. I am hoping to take some 3, to 4 thousand mile trips with my oldest grandson and the others grandchildren when they get older.

the game boy is for my wife, she also uses her iPod.

the older sidecars used the button on the right side of the tour pak and then a replacement for the left button in the sidecar - the 06 newer setup uses can bus to the sidecar and all the controls for the radio are in the sidecar.

that was hd's first production use of can bus -

I've heard of "can bus" before, but what is it? I have no experience as all of our bikes are too old/simple. I read that adding electrical accessories/lights can be tricky with "can bus" bikes.

OK, OK, I suppose I could "google" it myself. Innocent

I'm an old coal fired geezer but it sounds to me like the abillity to plug in the controls directly to the sidecar.

the radio controls are directly in the sidecar....

can bus - all new softails have it - eventually touring bikes will have it... all devices use 4 wires - total. cuts down the coper content of the bike by 90%... wires go from device to device to device - and the logic transmitted digitally on two of the wires tell the device to power on or off from the two hot wires.....

absolutely impossible to troubleshoot without a computer. but when it works its amazing

Only Ultra sidecars have the dash, taller back on seat, hand rails and the little map compartments. Mine is a standard HD sidecar with out all that. In 92,000 never had any problem with any eclectics on my Ultra and have had very minimal problems at all.

I prefer the standard sidecar as the dash makes it much harder to get in and out for larger people.

Cool, all I am going to do is more the passenger head set plug to the right side of the tour pack and the passenger in the sidecar can hook in there and push the pip button on the speaker housing on the right of the back seat. More the likely I will put a power outlet in the hack like I have in my tour pack.

Please post a picture of your custom made dash.
Thanks
Jeff
