Hannigan Classic --- Small Sidecar Wheel

I am trying to decide between the Spalding and Hannigan Classic sidecars for our 2011 Harley FLHTC (Electra Glide Classic).

If it were not for the cost, I would buy the Spalding in a minute. But the Hannigan Classic offers a similar shape, passenger accessibility, good reputation, at a much lower cost.

One concern I have is regarding the Hannigan the "trailer" sidecar wheel. Does anyone have comments, pro or con, regarding the smallish 12" wheel Hannigan employs?

Also, the Hannigan offers the electric camber option...is it worthwhile?

Any other comments to help us with our decision would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks (again) in advance for any and all replies.

Jack L

I have a Kawasaki Nomad 1700 with the Hannigan Astro GT sidecar. I do not have any type of steering modification/trail reduction and I do have a steering damper. I have the electric camber control and would not want to ride this rig without it. I use the camber control constantly to trim the pressure off the bars based on the load in the sidecar, the camber of the road, as well as in turns. If you get in a long sweeping turn you can just trim until you are going around the curve virtually hands off. Be sure to take this option.

I have a Conte model with the same tire. I drive it on the freeway at 70MPH with a passenger etc and have not had a problem with it yet. I have had the same tire for two full seasons. I also have the tilt which helps level the load. It isn't recommended for use as a right hand turning aid on a regular basis but I admit I have also done it on occasion. It is definitely a must have to adjust for the road camber though. ...No issues with the smaller tire. Scooters have similar size tires and they go like heck on the road too. 650 Burgman for example

Thanks for the replies. Sure I will go with the ECC...And evidently the smallish wheel is not a problem. Thanks again,
jack

The tire used is a 155/12 radial,it holds up well with good handling characteristics. I put nearly 40000 miles on mine on a v-star1100.Have the same tire on the current Warrior/GT. Definately get the ECC! ...Dave

Thanks again for the replies. With some trepidation, I ordered the Hannigan Classic Twin. It is 6" wider than the Classic, otherwise the same.

Thanks again,
jack

Dave,
I finally got it figured out and It's very cool . I know what to expect from a rig now and I can still do the highway at 65MPH with reasonable comfort. I actually commute to work on some days 75 km one way . It doesn't like stop and go traffic in the heat but It manages due to the liquid cooling. As you can see almost the whole family goes including the dog. Thats like an 800lb load!

I've been trying to decide between the Classic and Conti Classic. Plan on attaching it to a 2009 1200 Sportster with the 28 tooth pulley off the 883. I hadn't considered the Classic Twin but for only 30 lbs more, there is sure a lot more room and storage space. May have to give that some thought. What's with the window in the front? That's pretty cool but wonder if the passenger can see through it or is it too low. Maybe only good for the dog looking through. LOL

No... the window is perfect height and the passenger hardly gets any wind at all. See perfectly
