My wife has Rhumatoid Arthritis and at times finds it difficult to get into hack. We have a Liberty sidecar , all fiberglass construction . I was wondering if it would hurt the integrity of the hack to cut a door in the outboard side and then hinge and latch it? I was thinking I could add some strength and stiffness to this by glassing some wood on the inside. What do you think?.

Your best advice on plausibility of this modification will come from Pete Larsen of Liberty Motors who designed and engineered the unit.
I'm sure if you called or emailed him he would have an opinion on the safety of this modification if performed on the Liberty body.

I agree that calling Pete Larson(Liberty Sidecars) is probably the best bet up front.

If you want to contact Merle Wolfe(L&W Body) ...the link previously given...click here:

We (C Stanley Motorsports Inc.) also do a body similar to a '36-67 Harley. These bodies can be done in 16 ga steel or 1/8" aluminum. They can have a fabric door or a metal door built in.
The bodies are basically built to order and being as they are metal modifications are not out of the question. The pic below shows one with a harley type front on it and a larger rear section for more trunk space.

Thanks for the links guys. I will contact Pete Larson. I also am working on a CJ sidecar that has much easier access, so may just wait and see how that goes before cutting up the Liberty.

IMHO: The CJ sounds like a much better idea than cutting up the pricey Liberty car.

Ya, I agree, just at the rate I am going I may be dead and gone way before that CJ sees the road. But now I have a new incentive I suppose.

CJs , stock or otherwise, look cool on Harleys. Chromeing the body support springs looks cool. Switching over to a Harley wheel and fender also really sets them off.

I am putting the CJ on a "81" CB 750...all rattle can green with a military look for a bang about rig. The Harley and the Liberty will be the Sunday driver. Just need more time... but who doesn't?
