Just saying thanks for all the help....thought I'd post some pics of my mothers new rig. Mine is at the shop awaiting new shims....post pics when I get her back

Any one know of the ways to change the gearing (lower on an 80 GL1100) Hard ways? Easy Ways? Thanks

Can't offer any easy way to make changes except working with wheel and tire sizes, and tire profiles, can help some.
"Gearing, lower", doesn't say what you are looking for.
A higher numerical ratio will give lower speeds at a given RPM.
A lower numerical ratio will produce higher speeds at the same RPM.
Pick which you wan't and go from there.

Hack'n I would like a higher numerical ratio - thank you for clarifying. Where do I go from here?

Perhaps a 15" rear wheel with a low profile tire. Otherwise you'll have to seek different gear sets for the transmission or rear axle. I don't know of a source for these items.

I put one of HT Wheels 15" car tire wheel conversions on my GL1000. It made about a half gear difference in over all gearing.( higher numerical, higher rpm's, about 450 @ 60 mph in 4th gear. 135R15 Firestone tire). Works about right for my rig.

Is this correct for HT wheels. found here - but not when I googled.

Harry Tarzian, H.T.Wheels, Rebersburg, Pa. (814) 349-2414

Thanks for the suggestions.

I recall once reading that using a GL1100 gearset in a GL1000 would alter the gearing favorably for a sidecar, but I can't find the article. Anyone have any experience with this??

Yes, that's the correct info for Harry Tarzian. He does very good precision work. In my previous post I should have said
5th gear not 4th gear. ( old age and all that.)
