Wondering what damages might occur if one forgets to shift into neutral while the reverse gear is engaged.

The operating procedure for this model is:
1.Start engine.
2.Shift into first gear.
3.Engage AIM reverse gear.
4.Shift into neutral.
5.Let clutch lever out--add a little throttle.
6.Rig now goes backwards.

Number 4 is accidently skipped and number 5 is performed after number 3-----this is the scenario I am trying to understand-----will the rig go backwards while the transmission gear is in a forward mode? What might be any damages.

I contacted the AIM tech support but was given a vague answer, as if they didn't know what might happen.

Thanks for any help.
Jay.

The AIM Reverse gear unit incorporates 2- 1/4" brass shear keys on the idler gear that engages the transmission reverse gear (similar to the shear pins some outboard motors use to keep the engine from damage when the prop gets snagged).
If one puts undue stress on the drive train like trying a reverse burnout, the (replacable) keys will shear and reverse is no longer engaged and the tranny isn't grenaded.
