Did I get the cart before the horse

Actually, I got the horse first...A 1980 Honda CB 750 and yesterday the cart arrived...a refurbished Chang Jaing sidecar. When I put them side by side and also felt the weight of the sidecar I wondered about the suitibility of this combo. The sidecar is almost as long as the total bike length

The weight of the bike is about 575 and sidecar weight is unknown but I would guess 225 or so.
Has anyone on the post put these or similar combos together.

When I bought my Dnepr it was attached to an XS850. It was fine for one up riding but didn't like the interstate when I carried a passenger. Keep in mind that your sidecar was originally designed for a 25 HP outfit. If I remember right, the early CB 750's were around 57 HP.

Thanks Mike.

I think my CB is about 72hp. I also hope to change the sprockets to get more torque.

My Harley is a great interstate rig with 1440 cc. I wanted this one primarily for a bang about rig and winter driver.

Here's a 500 Honda Shadow/URAL and a 750 Shadow/ Dnepr rig.
Both worked fine with the heavy steel M22 clones.
The 750 rig could handle the freeway.

The Chang sidecar should do okay. The rig will be stable in right handers.

Using a CJ on a 2006 Kaw 1600 Vulcan Classic. Runs out great in town and on the highway. Also have a Dnepr on my 56 ariel Sq-4.

The experts tell me (Wark and Bob from Texas sidecars) that the ratio of the bike to the car should be about 3 to 1. With your combo your at 2.55 to 1........really too lite of a bike to that car I would think.

The 3 to 1 ratio is only a rule of thumb not etched in stone.
Some racers go 4 to 1 and cruisers maybe 2 to 1.
If the bike can pull the loaded sidecar without excessive lugging or having to slip the clutch it's good to go. (Stopping may be another matter).

I'm with Lonnie here. Up to a limit, heavier is better. That's why most of those pros actually say the sidecar should weigh AT LEAST 1/3 as much as the laden bike. People interpret that to be 3 to 1.
