I am looking at buying a sidecar, preferably I would get a leaner from the get go and if someone has one or know of one please let me know!! I'm under the impression that it may take me a while to find a leaner, so I am open to a fixed rig in the mean time. Since I ride a '83 Venture the sidecar associated with this link: http://www.sidecar.com/megabbs/thread-view.asp?threadid=7134&posts=1 would theoretically just bolt to my bike and I can fix/sell the bike. Here are the questions:
Does anyone have a (starter) leaner available?
What is your opinion on the Terraplane? Quality/handling? Issues?
Is this chair the appropriate size for a 1200cc V4?
does anyone else run this combo or similar and would my Venture need modifications?

Thanks

The Vetter Terraplane is a nice heavy car well suited to the Venture.
Forget about the sidecar brake. It is obsolete and didn't work very well when new.
Without a valid title the bike is just a parts bike. Registration and bill of sale won't get you a clear title so you'll be able to sell the bike for use on the road.
You'd be better off replacing the seat anyway as they weren't all that comfortable for the passenger.

An '83 Venture parts bike is worth what: $7-800 leaving $$1800 for the car. Age undetermined, neglected but from the pix in reasonably fair condition (I guess) and a workweek away. How's that for value?

Some places don't title older vehicles. I bought a 71 BMW with a NY registration a few years ago. Only received the registration and a simple bill of sale from the seller. NJ registered it, and sent a title from Trenton a few weeks later.
This sort of thing varies from state to state. Also in NJ a trailer under 1000lbs weight, (may even be higher) is not titled.

I have a solid Vetter Terraplane for sale. You can see the rig by going to Dauntless Motors website (www.dauntlessmotors.com) and looking at the classified section. Jay Giese of Dauntless can answer your questions and has the last remaining stock of mounts for the Terraplane. His company can also do the mounting, painting, etc. He has done three other rigs for me in the past.

Thanks for the feedback but that unit sold and subsequently I found a standard Equalean which should arrive here around the 20th. Then I just need to mount it 🙂 Life is good!!

Good luck on figuring out how to safely mount the Equalean. The original mounts are shakey at best.
There is a support group for Equalean owners on the web but I don't have the URL.

Contact John Goff (jg@teleport.com).
He used to ride Equalean rigs and currently rides Flexit (leaner) rig.
He is Dr. leaner.

He is a regular at Flexit forum ( http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/flexitsidecarclub/) which is for leaner rigs.

Thanks for the positive feedback! I am buying John's old EL so we've been chatting quite a bit! I'll be mounting the unit on my '83 Venture so anyone with good mounting info to cut down install time would be appreciated

You are buying from John.
What a coincidence!

He will tell you what you should/shouldn't do in detail.
