Joyce - 11/2/2007 9:05 AM You can read about it here: http://www.sidecar.com/megabbs/thread-view.asp?threadid=4889

That thread seems to be dead or something? That link takes me back to the main page.

I found it again, I think. If I recall, the problem was not exactly with Texas Sidecar but an issue with paying sales tax on the purchase.

Thanks, I found some other post of his by searching with him as the author. It concerned a Hannigan sidecar that Texas sidecar didn't want to install for him if he bought it direct from Hannigan.

I am not sure what all the fuss was about either. As i stated earlier in the tread we ordered a Texas side car last month. They have been so nice helping us decide up on which sidecar to buy. They never once put down any other make of sidecar.Only good things to say about other manufactures. For two years they put up with my E-Mail and phone calls.Always up front about the Texas sales tax thing and installations. If he bought a Hannigan side car why not let them install it? I kinda think of it as,buying a New Ford, you dont take it to a Chevy dealer to have it prepared for delivery. I don't think. OK i put my 2 cents in. Texas side car company are good honest up front people. Randy and Karen

Love it.Shipping was fast.Always returned my E-Mail.What can i say. I have no problem with Texas Sidecar.Everything was as stated. Easy transaction. So far the best.If you have any questions just let me know.I put a Texas Side Car Ranger on a 2008 Harley Softail Deluxe. Randy and Karen

I like the look also.Handles great on the Harley.I have a little slow speed shake but i think a steering dampner will fix that. Its kinda the norm.I really think it is going to work out good for us. I am new to sidecars and had a lot of mixed emotions but i like it.Randy

I just started the ordering process with a "Standard" model for a 2005 Heritage Softail. Is a steering damper needed for the softail? I've included a picture of the bike (the wife's)

Hi: I drove my Heritage 08 for almost 600 miles without it.I put one on just yesterday.I waited, so i could fine tune the alignment without it.I have just taken it around the block after putting the dampner on.I think it will be helpful.I have a ton of advice for you if you are going to set it up yourself. They are really good people at Texas Sidecar car, but the instruction are for the most part for a Dyna. The alignment took sometime. But after i learned how ,on trail a error i am glad i did.I checked all points of alignment last night took me maybe 20 min.I have had it up to 75 and 80 and can take hands off the bars and it tracks straight. The only shake i have is between 15 and 25 but i think the dampner i put on will help this.Another question everyone ask is the raked triple tree.I really dont think i am going to put one on.I myself am having any issues with hard steering. If you need any advice with it please let me know i would be happy to chat with you on the phone and maybe give you a few tips i had to find out the hard way. PS I found a nice dampner on line for $100 great easy set up and is hidden out of the way.Randy and Karen

Thanks for the info Randy...it will be a month or two before I will get my hack. Glad I found this forum (and it does appear to be rather active) for when I go to install the car. Keep me/is informed of the progress with your setup!

Hey, Deb sure has a purdy bike. We have 2 Texas Ranger models mounted to smaller bikes and neither rig has a steering damper. I considered a damper for the Sportster, but after following suggestions from this forum, including increasing front tire air pressure and tightening up the steering head bearing, I determined the damper was not necessary. The only time I would have liked one was when hitting a bump/hole in long left-hand curve with a passenger in sidecar. But I've learned to be ready for such as I'm now familiar with the rig's reaction.

Also, I would suggest the Ranger model for the Heritage Softtail. Altho Bob suggested the Standard for the Sportster, we chose the Ranger for the perceived additional passenger comfort. Neither of our bikes has difficulty tugging the Ranger, but I suspect our top speed is limited to an extent due to the extra wind drag. And as I recall, the Heritage weighs 200+ lbs over the Sportster. Good luck with your new project and adventure.
