You guys are going to laugh at me, but I'm a newby, so be merciful...

I went for a really nice long ride into the mountains today on my (non-hack) Kawasaki Vulcan 750...and while I was in the mountains, everything was nice...however, California Central Valley has been experiencing daytime high temps around 102 or more...and I can tell you that coming back from the hills was just bloody hot.

So the solution, I thought to myself, would be an ice chest with 40 pounds of ice and a full case of bottled water and TeJava (I'm hooked on the stuff) on the floor of a sidecar rig.

I know this is probably old news to all y'all...but I'm still in the planning stages to put a sidecar on the Vulcan and I'm not there yet...but it would be cool in the extreme to reach over into your hack, open the ice chest and pull out an ice-cold bottle of water or tea (no EtOH while riding, please!!).

Do I win the Master of the Obvious award today?

=;-)

Though I wouldn't know about this personally, I've been told you can get thirteen cases of 12 ounce cans, 2 large bottles of Jagermeister, a case of bratwurst and sixty pounds of ice cubes in a Dnepr if you take out the seat. :0)
Or do it like these two...

That's an MZ and with my first MZ sidecar I made 7 home movements.once a bed for 35km where I bearely could look above that thing to the right. The edge was perhaps 5 cm below my eyes.Every bike is good for to transport each a 50l beer barrel like we 11 guys once, but the Nimbus sidecar took 3 of them, good enough for a day's proviant more on a meeting where the dog's flew chairs! I've got a little soft sided cooler with a flap door in the top just big enough to reach in and pull out a cool one. Holds about twelve cans with sufficeint ice for a long day. Hangs from a shoulder strap so I can position it anywhere on the rig that I can reach comfortably.

As to extremes... if you take the seat and carpet out of a Spirit of America, filled with ice and cans good to about eight cases worth, ten in cooler weather...

Bob, I didn't see the winch in the middle for pulling a skier.Well equipped. Didn't you buy a camper in the first place?Sorry I'm a tiny guy and my damaged back wouldn't last a long ride on a big bike like yours on a inclinated road for long. Specially on our costarican Roads (i said roads? => better said testing tracks for shocks) Good luckSven Peter Pan

Peter, I'm only 5'6", my back is also bad, and the bike is a really smooth ride..great on twisty roads. it is heavy enough not to lift the SC wheel on turns.
it probably would be crappy on rough potholed roads tho.
actually I use the cooler to pack our sleeping bags, clothes, and air mattress. total weight of it loaded is 35 pounds. the tent is tied on top of my Aux gas tank.
the metal frame you see is for the convertible top. that comes off for local riding, only to be usedon trips in case of rainy weather by my wife.
I also have a cargo trailer to take along if more 'stuff' is needed, but I found out the cooler/tent on the seat combo works fine. we leave the trailer home most of the time now.

My rig is multi-functional.It serves as my recreation/therapy and my work rig. I build custom fire screens and use the sidecar to deliver and install them. It's my go every where do everything kind of vehicle. I even use it for search and rescue.

And if you are really a smooth operator, then the chicks you pick up in the hack will be paying for the beers, anyway. 🙂
