I ve been in contact with the owner of this rig. 1988 Wing with almost 24K miles on it. It sounds like he hasn't owned it for a very long time because he doesn't know a few specifics about it (like if the car has a brake). I haven't asked why he is selling.

Anyway, it is a color matched California sidecar. Triple trees are done. Tires on good shape. Awaiting more pictures.

Any ideas on a fair price?

Thanks,eh?

I have owned two 1988 GL1500 with sidecars, one was a gray one with the california freindship 3 sidecar on it, Might even have been this one. The other started off gray but as I purchased it wrecked in 1990 and rebuilt it it ended up red and I ran a Daytona sidecar on it. Put over 100K on it before I sold it. The bike it self being a 1988 is of lower value then a 1990 or newer as they had final drive issues however there are so many trikes out there now it is not all that expensive should you loose the final drive to change over to a 1990 and up final drive and rear wheel as the wheels are different. It looks like in the photo's it does have the triple tree's although it is hard to tell in photo's. The only big ticket option that the sidecar may or may not have is the electric trim. I would put current market value on this bike at about $7500 as the market is a bit soft right now and the bike is 1/4 centry old. The bike has many years of good service life left on it. If you do not have records on the Timing belts I would change them out due to thier age. The brushes in the Altenator are known to stick, If I were leaving on a long trip I would either change them out our carry a spare set and a soldering iron to replace them on the road. If the Alt does go out there are aftermarket high output ones made for it.

Thanks for the info!

I have a couple of other questions about this machine:

1) Approximately how much does "electric trim" cost to have installed,Jay?

2) I own a 8.5X16 foot enclosed trailer. Interior measures 82" between wheel wells and 95" between the walls. The wheel wells are aboot 10" high. Will this rig fit in it?

Thanks for the assistance!

Brad

It should fit in the trailer, It will be very tight between the wheel wells. I would put a 2 X 4 on the deck between the sidecar wheel and the inner fender of the trailer so as to make sure that if it does shift going down the road the sidecar frender will not hit the trailer wheel well. Electric trim use to not be a big deal to install as all you had to do was order the parts from California sidecars. They no longer provide parts. The only way we could do this is with the bike in our shop as we have not designed retro fit parts as there is next to no demand. By the time we lift the body of the sidecar, design and wire it all and put it back about $1500. It could be done for a lot less if you could come up with an electric trim from another sidecar freindship 3 that could be copied and you install it your self. As we mainly build sidecars we do not get many California sidecars in the shop, once in a while they come in for us to install or to make repairs.

The critical pinch points with an enclosed trailer are the ramp cables and the throat width at the top of the ramp.

1) Approximately how much does "electric trim" cost to have installed,Jay? ** If you have modified tripple tree most likely you do not need "electric trim". At least i do not have it and see no need for it even my load change from ony me to 4 people.

2) I own a 8.5X16 foot enclosed trailer. Interior measures 82" between wheel wells and 95" between the walls. The wheel wells are aboot 10" high. Will this rig fit in it? ** Most likely not. last time I meajure my rig it is 88" in wides point. I used double snowmobil trailer for it.
