1998 Moto guzzi

We have done many of these bikes and my wife owned one for a while. The Guzzi is a very robust bike that holds up well over the long haul. It is perhaps not as refined as some other bikes.

The sidecar is a Motovation. If the rig was properly assembled not mounted with a bunch of "universal" type frame clamps and if it has had the steering modified it would be a great first rig.
We use to make triple tree's for this bike to lower the steering effort, made a bunch of them however the shop that was making these for us closed its doors taking the design for the tree's with them. We do not have plans to make them again.

Back in the mid 70's I ran a 74 & 76 Guzzi with a Ural sidecar without any steering mods and I really liked it. Both Guzzi's handled it well. The only drawback concerning maintenance I didn't like was the location of the oil filter, inside the oil pan. The oil pan had to be removed via a bunch of allen bolts before accessing the filter. On my rig I plugged the original filter and ran a oil line to a external spin-on filter which worked very well. On the 74, (850 Eldorado) I had replace the rear transmission seal between it and the drive shaft a couple of times. The last time I put two seals on it and it never leaked again. On that rig I also replaced the stock generator with one from a automotive source, I think it was either a Fiat or VW. Lots more amps and used a automotive battery. I had about 70,000 miles on the 74 before replacing it with the 76.

I have never owned a Guzzi, but in the 60s, 70s I had a couple of friends that did, the only problems that I can remember was electric switches failing, British bikes seemed to have the same problem and replacing them with Japanes switches was the fix.

I had a 2001 goto guzzi with a sputnick sidecar that I got from dmc. I t was a great rig. Put 30,000 mi on that rig with no problem.

I have a2001 Jackal....i love it....very solid, reliable bike....I just bought an old Watsonian Monza to put on my Yamaha, had thought about putting it on the guzzi but I love the ride too much, handles so well, sounds wonderful......you will be hooked.....
I also have a friend with a V11 california with a Velorex and he says its a great rig.....although he put on a leading link front end which I'm sure makes a difference.....

So to concur that has been said here, Guzzis make a decent tug and for the most part, they are very reliable. Like any other marque, there have been isolated issues throughout various models over the years, usually minor annoyances. That EV that you have picked up is probably the least troublesome Guzzi ever made, okay, that is a bit much but you get the idea.

I have owned a stack of EVs, '98, 99, '01 and '04. The Hack is one of the '99s that we have had. Been a great rig.

Guzzi is a nice sidecar bike so go for it. My buddy has a Guzzi Stone with Ural sidecar and it looks cool.
