A friend of mine is looking to put together an outfit. He already has a sidecar and is looking at a Yamaha 1100 V Star Classic (2007) as a tug. Does anyone have any experience with these?

Thanks--Rich

Lots of power, triple brakes, shaft drive, big bike feel, they make great tugs. I've set up lots of them.

Thanks, Lonnie. I think we're going to check it out tomorrow.

We have done a few of these, they work out well. We have bike specific mounts as well as triple tree's to lower the steering effort.

I have a 2005 set up with a Texas chassis and Ural tub. It's a great tug like he said with shaft drive and triple discs. I've put 12000 miles on mine-I bought it used with 9000--and no problems. Hauls the wife and I anywhere we like.

I have a 2003 1100 Vstar classic that I use with a Texas sidecar Ranger. it is a great tug in general; the only place it may leave you wanting is if you want to do long interstate rides at 70+ mph. It will do it but feels like it is straining some. It has good off the line power and more than ample brakes. I put SS lines on the front brakes to firm them up just a tad more. all-in-all you won't go wrong sans Interstate droning.

Thanks for the replies!

We went to see the V Star this am. Looks good, seems to run well. I think my friend will be making an offer.

So, next question--would anyone be willing to post some pics of their mounts? or email them to me?

After checking out the bike, we stopped by one of the local motorcycle shops. They were having demo rides of Zero (electric) motorcycles. Took one out for a short ride, and it was a hoot. No clutch, no shifting, no noise. Decent power. 'course they're too expensive ($11k) and have too limited a range (76 mi) to be practical for me, but it was quite interesting to ride one.
