My buddy, my pal, my sidecar builder, Charles the Younger, asked me to go fetch....and I did.
But I own some of the responsibility for his asking me to go fetch, as I am the one that informed him that a nice looking Ural sidecar was for sale on CL, and I alerted him to it, and he immediately said...Go Fetch.
Problem was, it was so far north of Chuck, and very far north of me, it was almost up to the Canadian border, in the small town of Ferndale, or...actually north of the town of Ferndale, Washington.
I went, I fetched, and I came back home...360 miles roundtrip.
Now I have to deliver this to Charles the Younger tomorrow, at his place that is 220 miles south of me, or...440 miles roundtrip.
Oh, the things I do for my buddy, my pal, my sidecar builder.
This is an older version of the Ural sidecar, and....hard to believe that this sidecar still has the original hand air pump in the trunk, also has a couple brand new extra light lenses, to replace any lens on the sidecar fender if they got broken.
All carpet, a full tonneau cover, and a really, really nice seat.
I may have to snag this really, really nice seat to put into MY sidecar that he is almost done building.
(ignore the BMW roundel emblem on it, some wanker stuck that there)

He also sent me 3 more pictures of his handy work....new Warp 9 wheel and tire, on a 25mm axle...and 2win shock

That Sidecar Builder guy sent me more pictures

Looking Reeeeeeeaaaaal Good! 🤩
The BMW roundel is 100% the standout feature on the Ural tub. I think you need a few on ATAR. Maybe replace some of those Hondo emblems. 😉
On a serious note. Definitely snag that seat. Has just enough wear to look like THEE comfortable place to be.

Well...3 things:
# 1: the Seattle Seahawks beat the La La Rams, and are already the favorite to WIN the SUPERBOWL.
# 2: the seat in the Ural sidecar that I was hoping to get, is a lot too nice for my Africa Twin sidecar rig, so..... whilst Chuck the Builder offered it to me, we both agreed that a typical Ural sidecar seat would be better in my sidecar, than this super nice seat....so Chuck will pass it on to a rig more worthy of it.
# 3: not as glamorous as promised, but...we did have lunch, and I said there would be pictures:
My burger.... Dane's Reuben sandwich... and Chuck's Chicken Fingers
Blame it on Chuck....he chose the restaurant 😋

And then...Chuck and Dane and I all took turns driving my Africa Twin sidecar rig up Chuck's street, just to test it out.
For Sale.... asking $ 20k.... make me an offer.

Came out great! Are you going to get a chance to run some Washington back roads before the next smart owner comes along?
Nice thing about the Ural seat is they are "dog friendly". At the risk of being a "broken record", someone is definitely going to get an excellent rig.
Maybe Charley Boreman should buy it for another "Round the World Adventure." This rig is definitely capable of it. 🤩

Well, I personally know Charley Boorman, and he would not be interested, as in his view the sidecar is on the wrong side
I sold a bike to Ewan McGregor a few years ago, and it is one I believe he will never sell...1953 Vincent Black Shadow.
And to answer your question, there is a 99% probability that I will NOT be using this Africa Twin sidecar rig to run some Washington backroads, before it sells.
Ya know, Scott, your SYZ only has about 10 miles miles left in it, before...
, ergo...your should buy this Africa Twin rig.

With DCT Charley could sit on it backwards, and the sidecar would be on the correct side. 😎
SYZ and I are like sauerkraut and bratwurst with yellow mustard. Two classics without class. Hard to move away from that to Wagyu beef and Shishito Peppers. I wouldn't know how to act. 😉

I had a request from a potential buyer from California, asking about the emissions sticker on this 2018 Africa twin, as to whether or not this bike is able to be registered in Cali....and the answer is YES.
But wait...there's more....
As of right now, dateline January 26, 2026, 4:57 pm PST, it appears we have a buyer.
He has given me the Go Ahead to have Chuck build a new Leading Link front end for this bike, so...that okay has been given to Chuck, and it shall be done.
Once Chuck is 100% done with his end of everything, and I pick the sidecar rig up from Chuck's at the end of February, then I will bring it to my shop, wherein I shall install all new lighting on the sidecar, on the sidecar fender, fore and aft, and new LED driving light on the front bumper of the sidecar. I will also install/mount 2 RotoPax fuel canisters onto the sidecar, wire up all the new lighting from the sidecar to the bike, and go over every nut and bolt in my own shop, to ensure that it is ready to be handed off to the new owner.
Just imagine that it is an Africa Twin sidecar rig up on my lift....and you get the idea.
So...tentatively this rig is SOLD....pending receipt of the initial deposit. Once that deposit has been received, I will exclaim it as...

Someone is getting an awesome rig for sure! Hope they'll post up adventures here. 😎
Congratulations to you both! 🍻

Just for grins and giggles, or...in case someone out there wants to follow along in the building of a new Leading Link front end for an Africa Twin....Charles the Younger @54vintage has sent me pictures....and so it begins.

Finally able to post this picture of these triple tree spacers that Charles the Younger made for building the Leading Link on my Africa Twin sidecar rig.
He needed to make these spacers because the ID of the lower triple trees is 60mm, and the tubing he is using for the legs of the Leading Links is 1.75" pipe, or close to 45mm, therefore the need for reduction.
That's the problem when working with the younger people (Chuck is 4 months younger than me) is that he sends me pictures in a HEIC format, and I spend hours converting it to a jpeg format. Okay, color me OLDE....but my brain is not fully functioning right now.

Living in Washington, Apple growing state of the country I would have thought you'd be an HEIC aficionado. 😉
