With a few days and posts I can make some preliminary observations about this forum application ("WPForo"):

Responsiveness - It seems to be more responsive when I post. Which is counterintuitive from what I have read. The current forum application, Asgaros, is regarded as relatively light on the server as it has fewer features and options. But when I (and you all) click to submit even a relatively simple text-only post it takes forever to complete.

This forum application, WPForo, seems to be much more responsive, even though it is regarded as being relatively 'heavier' on the server. If this is the case, and maybe not just a function of the time of day or my PC, then it may indicate the general poor performance of Asgaros and provide another argument moving away from it.

Interface - In general the interface is easy on the eyes. Of course you have to retrain your eyes on where to look for which buttons and menus, but overall it is fairly intuitive and pleasant to view.

Emoticons/Smilies - IT HAS EMOTICONS BUILT IN!! People have been asking for this for a long time, and it is a common feature among most modern forum applications. Gotta love that!  😀 ❤️ They are somewhat limited now so I will have to see if I can extend the library.

User Accounts - It appears that all the existing user accounts will work with this application. IOW we won't have to start over with all new logins, passwords, profile pics, signatures, etc. That avoids HUGE inconveniences for people!

WordPress Integration - This is somewhat technical but since this is well integrated with Wordpress that means we can use improved membership management applications to automate that aspect of our association. That is a separate project but changing to WPForo will not hinder that effort.

Attachments/Images - These are limited in the base configuration. As I explained in another post the WPForo business model is to provide the application for free but charge for enhanced features. While we can purchase many of them one at a time they offer bundles for somewhat of a discount. The minimum bundle is $190/year. But not all of the features are as useful. That is probably not a deal-breaker but something to consider.

Migration - The WPForo developers provide a tool to migrate from other forum applications into this one. That is a huge plus! At no extra cost we should be able to import all of the existing historical posts into this application. Many caveats apply. That is a very large task (we currently have about 5200 users and over 84k posts). It may require some paid assistance, I will have to experiment...

More to follow as I continue to work with it.

Agree on the responsiveness: the few comments I have posted were instantly on. No waiting around for the posting before proceeding with other work. 👍

As a test I went to the regular site and copied a picture from Drew's Race Rig build thread.  Was able to post it into his thread here.

Simple Right click and copy image, then right click in the reply box and hit paste.  Hit the "Add Reply" button, and again it posted within a couple of seconds.

Hold my keyboard and watch this! 🙃

@viajero

I'm back to periodic freezing during typing.  Often repeatedly during a single sentence (<--three times typing that ).

The device I'm using is a MacBook Pro, 8gb ram, SSD, big bandwidth WiFi, FireFox browser, nothing trying to update.  The freezing is consistent whenever I'm online with this forum and never anywhere else.

I have experienced that in the past (years ago). The default autosave is set for 30 seconds so other than that there should be no interactions with the forum software until you hit 'send'. I wonder what you are using for a spell-checker or something else that might be a browser-based service.

Has anyone else experienced this?
