Wow! I'm learning fast!
Although I'm not ready to do it,I put out a feeler for the cost of a increased trail triple tree. Over $1000.00 plus shipping plus using my tree. If I did that, there would be no way I could sell my Valk later as a two wheeler.
I've seen pictures of a modified tree, doesn't look like much material is involved, if any, and that would mean about 10 hours at 100 bucks an hour just for example. That's a real headshaker! What in the world is going on?
I sure am glad that I've renewed my membership in the Fitness club at 300 bucks a year. I guess that at 78 years I can pump enough iron to make that
Valk steer real easy.
Yeah, I'm being facetious, sorta!

This is why I like the leading link. If you decide to turn it back into a 2 wheeler you just slide one set of tubes out, slide the other set in, and your on two wheels. If you use the modified tree, you have to find another original one and go through a whole lot more work. And the cheapest used stock tree I found was over $500.
My grandfather used to say that the number one rule of business is to always give the hardest job to the laziest employee. He'll find an easy way to do it. Guess that was me. :0)
I'm really glad you're enjoying your learning curve and your combination. I truly believe the Valkyrie is ten times better as a tug than whatever is in second place. But then, that's only me.
Mike,
Does that ten times better include your gas mileage? lol
Lonnie 45MPG

You know, the fuel consumption used to bother me but most people are telling me they don't do any better on the highway than my 25 or so. I do fine at 50mph, it's just on the Interstate where I drop down that low.
solo1, maybe sometime we could meet and compare notes, I have rode bikes since 1963 but have drove a hack only a few times 30+ years ago, just now setting up a Dnepr car on my 1977 sportster.
Hack'n, decided to try the Amsoil STM#10, picked up a quart of it today from a friend who sells Amsoil, needed to see him any way. needed another case of 20w-50
Having had the Valk since 1996, I tell people that the only way that I can get good gas mileage is to lie about it, How true, LOL.
However, the other good things about the Valk make up for it.
Mike (or anyone) I've just found a new Steerite 4.5 degree, never used, with the lower bearing for $950 plus shipping (private person). What do you think? I'd be able to keep my own triple tree.
HDKeith, sure lets' get together sometime. we are only about 50 miles away since New Haven is right next to Ft. Wayne. Misery loves company (just kidding, LOL). I am going to like hacking.
Since I'm new to this board, how can we contact each other without putting phone nos. or email addys in our posts?
The easiest way is to send a private message. Click on the users name and his public information will pop up. At the bottom is the send this user a private message tag. At the top of your forum page is an Inbox link and your private messages will be shown there. If you would like to be notified by email about your private messages there is also a setting in your personal setting.
Thanks Joyce, message sent.

Actually, it's a pretty good deal. It's not all that cheap, but if you don't have to give up yours and if you can be certain that it's a proffesionally built one, I'd go for it.
If he's the guy in California, don't tell him you're a Republican or he'll refuse to sell to you. :0)
Honestly, he visited my website, saw a picture of Ronald Reagon, sent me a really far left hate mail type link and refused to sell to me. He's had it listed a number of times on VRCC site.

Do I understand that the seller wants $1,000 PLUS your old triple trees!!! Ouch! That would sure stop me. You may need that stcok set of trees later on if you ever want to sell the machine.

Yes, that's about right. You send them your tree, they modify it and send it back to you. That's why most people who do it look for a replacement to send so they still have the option of going back to stock.
