I'm just trying to learn about the ins and outs of sidecar rigs. I did a search and didn't really get an answer so I figured I would ask here. How susceptible are the car tops to wind gusts when opening and closing? Is there a problem where the hinge and shock attach and crack under an errant gust?

If you are referring to sidecar car bodies that open for entry, some have gas struts that limit the amount of opening and some do not.
Just like opening a car door in windy conditions, common sense should prevail.

So I take it that it is not a big problem in looking at used rigs. Thanks :thumbup

My first Rig an MZ Superelastic had a hinge like youa talk about.
I never remember having had a probem or incident with it. In fact it was WAY more confortable then my actual Velorex.
But the only ocasions I had to inspect Sputnic sidecars The hinge would have been the very first sting to throwaway and install something beefier.
On some fibre glass rigs youshould check if the anchour spots are still OK or need reinforcement.
