I have been told twice now that the torsion suspension on older California sidecars have a habit of breaking causing the wheel to fall off......Anyone have any info on this?........I think someone here emailed me once about this, but I didnt take it seriously....now Im starting to worry......Thanks for any info.

I know the torsion leaves will break (like an old WV) and let the swingarm relax or drop, but I don't know why that would make the wheel come off completely. There are upgrades available to improve the ride and safety of the pre '89 suspensions.
On the very early California sidecars they did not have a little bar welded over the end of the springs. With out this when the springs break they can come out and the wheel could come off. Normaly the wheel does not come off as it just settles into the wheel well.
We make an up grade for these suspentions that even offers a disk brake as an option. We also keep the bushings in stock for these sidecars. Last I checked Califonia could supply the springs.
