TIRE WEAR
I have a Velorex 562 on a Vstar 1100. When I but the car on I had about 1500 miles on the front and back tire, now I have 4000 miles on them the back has maybe another 1000 and is wearing even the car looks like new. The problem is the front tire it is wearing on the left side. I've checked balances and all bearing. Any suggestions?

You may have too much leanout. The front tire is usually affected very little, if at all, by attaching a sidecar. The rear tire is most likely to show excessive wear. If the sidecar tire is wearing evenly it's probably leanout.

Thanks Lonnie, As it is I have negative steering, but I will set it up a littel.

Henry....
You fail to mention your brand of tire. I ran Metz's 880's for over 12k on the rear before replacing with a car tire and still have the front with almost 17K with at least 5k left. I still had 2 to 3K left on the rear when I switched it out, but wanted the car tire. 42 pounds in both front and rear with the 880's. Great tires, but you do have to have the alignment correct.

I always run Dunlop touring Elites on both front and rear, get about 10-12000 mile each tire on '81 G0ldwing/ Monac sidecar. It is a heavy rig and carries a load. Doug
I'm running Bridgestone. Running solo I got about 8000 out of them. With Dunlap about 6000.

I have a Metzler ME880 on the rear of my dual sport V strom. 4500 miles, I would guess I might get 6k total, not sure yet.
I ride a lot in the twiaties, maybe that is why the mileage is low? California roads aren't the best either.
Wear seems very even.

On my Ural Retro, I got 2,000 miles on the rear before changing. Not sure what brand, presume Russia's finest.
The best milage tire I have run as far a cycle tires go has been the Dunlop 491. Have gotten over 10,000 out of a rear even though it shoudl have probably been changed earlier. We do not have the best roads here in Pa. and I do run the twisties a lot. The tire wear does vary quite a bit due to this.
Front tires have never been a big issue. Best milage came from Avon sidecar tires but others did well too. Sidecar tires have not been an issue at all except on the velorex we had years ago.
I have run donlop 491 for years but can not fine anymore. do you know of a place. need 130 90 16 front and rear thanks for your reply harryho tennessee

Good guys to deal with.
You'll get front tire wear with squshy front shocks. Also using front brake excessively will slightly alter toe in and cause front tire wear.
Or, maybe you turn right more than you turn left, quick turn around is always to the right for me. Humped road surface could also affect wear especially with short axle lead.
