I picked up a '78 Goldwing with a Sputnik attached a few months ago and I need to replace tires. It came with an Avon Roadrider on the back and an Avon sidecar tire on the front and a Dunlop on the Sputnik. Is this a reasonable setup or would I be better with something else? Is the sidecar tire made for the front of the bike or could it be used on both the front and sidecar?

Thanks,
Dave

Avon doesn't make all sizes of sidecar block tires. No rear for you.

The Dunlops are hard rubber tires that last as long as any bike tires for sidecar usage.

Thanks for the reply. Would there be any advantage to putting the K block tires on both the front and the sidecar? I know tire choice is mostly a personal thing but I am trying not to get too far off base by buying the wrong tires since shis is my first rig. I have ridden on 2 off and on for years but adding a third wheel makes quite a difference and I know I will be learning for quite some time.

Thanks,
Dave

Sidecar tires last a long time unlike rear bike tires and are not subject to all the traction wear that a front bike tire gets from lateral slippage and brake use. Rear tire goes first, then front, then sidecar.
If cost is about the same as a Dunlop, go for the Avon if you wish but no great difference will be noticed. Hard tread rubber wears the longest and sidecar traction isn't normally an issue on street rigs.
