thumping noise from sidecar
I have a Daytona that makes you feel like you are sitting in a drum when its going down the road. I jacked it up and rotated the tire and no issue. The tire is new. Any idea what would cause that?
Thanks,
Rodd

Rodd, is it a rhythmic drumming sound or intermittent? I frequently hear a hard thump (or thumping, depending) from the sidecar wheel / suspension when rolling over certain tar snakes, or expansion joints on city side streets, but never when on the interstate highway.
An empty tub could amplify that sound making it much louder and annoying.

It's a rhythmic drumming and it does it even when on a freshly paved road with no tar snakes. It's really annoying if your in the sidecar. I can barely hear it from the bike but the wife doesn't like the drumming sound.

A) Perhaps a bad bearing that appears only under load. These days I met 2 cars with so noisy wheel bearings I thought my bike's engine would have had suddenly a mayor issue.
Put load in your sidecar and push the rig by the s/c fender on very smooth surface and test if you feel any hard spot or sound.
B) A tire with pinched wire core (example: when you hit a pot hole) uses to build a hump on the sidewall of the tire...=1 hit per wheel rotation
Had that on several car tires.
C) If it would be on the bike I would suggest to check if the chain has unequal elongation....(last year before my Sweden trip I overtightened the chain for 700km...the hole chain-sprocket set lasted only 16.000km =10.000mi)...=1-2 hits per every 5-7 wheel rotations
D) last year in our Ural broke 1 tooth of the final drive's crown....but you would notice that on the bike too.
E) unround wheel drum?

1). Bearings, dry or defective.
2). Defective tire, separating or out of balance
3). A stone stuck in the tire tread, but you would see that
4). Does the Daytona have a brake on the wheel? Warped rotor or, out of round drum, or dragging brake shoe...?
5). Certain tire treads give off a rhythmic sound too.
Does the drumming go faster when you do?

Rodd, Sven has some good suggestions:1). Bearings, dry or defective.
2). Defective tire, separating or out of balance
3). A stone stuck in the tire tread, but you would see that

The Daytona does have a brake, I pull the wheel and check the brakes, drum and bearings.
Thanks everyone for the advice.
Don't forget a shock rubber. If they are worn and loose you can get some weird noises.
Not sure of the suspension, swingarm type can have some play at the rear of the swingarm where it attaches to the frame of the sidecar. They can make some noises over s. I've never been able to get all the play out of this area, and need a really thin shim to make it work. When you go and try and preload it you have to back it off slightly as the nut just won't align properly for you to put a cotter pin in.
