Does anyone have any experience with what shocks are a direct replacement for EML (Koni) shocks; specifically EML S335 rear shocks. I'm working with the Ikon importer, but Ikon apparently cannot match up the EML numbers, and I don't know the Koni numbers.

I just changed my leaking Koni (EML) rear shocks using Progressives. Mesured the eye-eye distance and ordered accordingly. Have not put many miles on them, but I expect/hope for good results.

Hey BigD, do you recall which model/type/style Progressive shocks worked on your rig?

No model number indicated. I will look later today for the box (which I probaly don't have). Early week, I will talk to 'my guy', and see if he can give me the info. He ordered them. On my K100, we got fooled. Measured the left hand shock, and then ordered two 12.5in (eye to eye) shocks. When we went to install, we realised the right one was shorter. It took a welded bracket to fix the problem.

Sorry Lee...It's been one of those weeks...no time to breath. I do not have the box. I will talk to my 'guy' soon.

Hey BigD: I looked over the Progressive shocks and it looks as if the 418's might work OK; however, our EML rig has already has an adapter/extender for the stock right hand mount, which requires a 25mm hole on the bottom of the shock. All this being considered, we shipped the originals to the Ikon importer to measure-up for a quote on replacements.

I too am very interested to hear how the progressive and the Ikon alternatives work out. I know Wilburs will make you custom replacements but they are uber expensive and it takes a while. My current project is a 1980 R80 EML with the T car.

We installed Ikon shocks "all-the-way-around" on the K100/EML GT2001 rig with very good results. Dave Gardner worked with us, not only confirming the spring rates, but also customizing the rears to a different length, as well as adapting one of Ikon's shocks to fit the heavy-duty EML spring for the sidecar.

Dave's email out in San Francisco is: ikonusa@gmail.com

By the way, this rig is in central Louisiana now. 🙂

There is a Yahoo group devoted exclusively to EML sidecars and you might get more answers by posting over there. The URL is http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/EML_SCL/ .

While at the SKUNKs rally a couple of weeks ago I saw these very nice Ohlins on a K75 rig. I've included a close up that shows the numbers.
