Do you have any pictures of how you attached your damper? I picked up a VW one at a meet for $5 and I'm going to fit it to my Honda.

Harley uses a mounting plate that bolts onto the back of the lower triple clamp (3 bolts) and replaces the clamshell deflector there for the rod end. This is the fork mount. The other end (shock bushing) mounts to a bracket welded onto the sidecar upper strut. This gives a somewhat horizontal mounting without interference.

It's a Honda 1977 CB750 and a Ural sidecar. I'm not sure if the VW damper is going to be the best thing or not. I was looking at some clamps that mount to the lower fork tube, but then there's the added problem of the suspensions movement. I have a friend with a larger size car one that is mounted from the lower fork tube to the crash guard. The smaller size dampers such as sold by Dennis Kirk for $130 may be a better thing, especially if I could get them to mount up and out of the way better, similar to the harley one, but that's more $$ than I have.

Josh,
A fork brace mount will work. Be aware that the VW dampers come in different stroke lengths from under 6" to over 7". If one is too short it will limit your steering radius.

The fender mount bolts and caliper bolts also offer mounting positions for a bracket on some models.
If needed, the damper will work best with both ends attached to non- articulating parts of the chassis of the bike and car.
Second option is to mount to a front fork slider. If the second option is used mount the damper perpendicular (90 degrees) to fork travel to eliminate (reduce) bump steering when rough roads are encountered.

I think the '66 or earlier Beetles had the longer stroke.
