Sputnik Suspension
I'm getting ready to put a new-to-me Sputnik on my 2003 Guzzi Stone and was wondering about the shock/suspension on the Sputnik. I've read that the shocks are kind of soft and mushy. What would be a good replacement? Should I look for something like a Hagon and put the same shock on the back of the Guzzi as well?
I'll appreciate thoughts on the matter.
Try what you have first. then you will have some idea of what is needed if anything.

If you have to guess, err to the side of firmness.
Stiffness is less likely to result in dangerous handling than too soft.
Sputnik shocks are not all that easy to replace in that they used a stud on top of the shock that treaded into a bushing in the top mount on the frame of the sidecar and then the lower "eye" in the shock is only 10mm. Shocks off of an IZH motorcycle might fit however no idea where you would find these. We have been out of shocks for about 10 years (we use to import these sidecars and do have some spares) as the factory does not exist any longer we can not get spare parts. What we do in house is cut the top of the sidecar frame off, cut the shock mount off of the swing arm and weld in new fittings for a better quality shock usually we use either Progressive or Hagon shocks.
And of course we can provide mounts for the Stone as well as triple tree's to lower the steering effort.

Hi Jay. Yep, I'm looking at my DMC Stone mounts right now, they arrived last week. I may have to ask you more about those mods to the shock mounting that you've described.
