spring rate

Anybody got anything to say that would help in determining spring rates on a rig? Its a medium weight car on a Kawasaki Vulcan classic. Car is mounted, basically what is left to do to complete project (mechanical part) is to replace shock to lower car a bit. Felt like existing shock was mighty stiff anyway, and way too long. I changed original wheel for 4.80 x 12 trailer tire. Any input appreciated. 🙂

If the length needed will match up with a Harley shock they can be found on ebay at very reasonable cost. Or better yet borrow one from a friends bike to test.
