Sidecar upper mount fell off !
Hi! I'm new here and was needing to know where I can get a new part to replace one that fell off. We have a 2004 Harley Sportster 883 XL and we have a California Classic sidecar mounted to it. My wife was going down the highway and the piece that mounts the upper mount to the bike fell off. It's the piece that bolts to the frame. My wife rides around with a 170 Lb English Mastiff in this sidecar and they do Bike Nights, Charities, Parades and what ever they can do to help others or just to make someone smile so we really need to get this fixed so they can get back out there and make people smile. Any help would be really great. If anyone wants to see this big dog she has her own Facebook page. Just go to ( Bertha Biker Dog ) and you can see and hear what she is all about. Her name is Bertha and she loves to ride in this sidecar so if anyone has any ideals or knows where we can get the parts please help. Thanks !
Have you tried california sidecars to see if they have them ? Otherwisw check with Dauntless Motors, I broke one a few months afo and got a replacement from Velorex. Check the sidecar dealers and manufacturers in this site. Doug
We have a mount for this, It replaces the upper rear shock mounting bolt. Some saddle bags will not allow this. For your bike you would need the mount $75 and an eye bolt to adapt to the mount on our eye bolt $48. We also have the "universal" strap clamp type of mounts similar to the California one however our eye bolt is 12mm wide with a 12mm hole so in addition to the clamp $90 you would need an eye bolt to adapt it $48
On this bike for the upper front mount we use one of our 1 1/2 inch strap clamps. The lower mounts are a 3 part sub frame that mounts the lower rear mount just ahead of the rear tire and the front just ahead of the bend in the down tube. This allows for the mounts to be just about as far apart as possible. No idea how California made thier mounts for your bike. We did have one 2004 and or newer Sportster in here that had a Velorex mounted by a "dealer" where they mounted the lower rear mount to the swing arm. Not a good idea no matter how you look at it. I suspect they did this as there is very little room to use "universal" type mounts on the lower part of the frame and the mount would have been to close to the lower front. On this bike they of course also used a strap clamp for the upper rear which meant the upper rear was not as high up on the frame as we would like which is why it is best to use our mount that replaces the eye bolt on the shock.
And of course we also offer triple tree's for this bike for lighter steering.
We will be at the national rally in a couple of weeks.

Hi! I got some photo's but don't know how to post them so do you have a E-mail where I can send you some photo's so you can see what i need. It looks like all I need is a strap clamp to replace the one the fell off. The bolt came loose and it and the clamp fell off. I have everything else. Thanks!

I am back in the office now if you want to email me, I can also email you photo's of our mounts if you wish. We will be closed Thursday and Friday as we will be at the national rally. Also in the next day or two we will be posting an article in the FAQ section on our site http://www.dmcsidecars.com/faq/ about how not to mount a sidecar to the rubber mounted engine Sportsters. We have one in here now that the owner claims we installed by a sidecar dealer but we do not belive that to be the case as the lower rear mount was attached to the swing arm and the mounting job was done so poorly that the bike and sidecar were leaning in to each other as the mounts were sliping. In the article we show how it came in, what is wrong with it and how we remounted the sidecar using proper not universal type mounts.
