Does anyone have a close up picture showing how and where
they mounted the upper rear strut to their loop frame Guzzi?
Did you have to braze something to the frame? How did you clear
the tool box?

Howard, Have you checked with Dauntless Motors? They have done a lot of Guzzi work, are nice folks to deal with and may have what you need in stock. http://www.dauntlessmotors.com/I hope this helps...Santa Ron

Howard,
Your question is why I prefer to fabricate subframes for most of the rigs we build. The use of a subframe allows the placement of all four mounts to be done in such a way as to provide ease of adjustment, better traigulation and it will also add strength to the whole assembly when done.
Upper rear mounts can be a challenge without a subframe where as with a subframe you can place them at a better point and not be concerned with movement.
Lower rear mounts with a subframe can be moved rearward also which is a good thing.
Can a sidecar be mounted to a loop frame without a subframe? Yes it can but the mounting points will not be in the best places.
Note that if you do decide to attach some kind of permanent mount like you described onto the bike frame it really should be welded and not brazed on. Guzzi frames are made with some pretty beefy tubing. If the load is distributed well, spread around, you will be okay. Bracing from the right to left side of the frame is a good idea also.
I only mention welding due to your question. Bolt on is still preferred even if it is just a partial assembly and not a complete subframe.

Claude, Ron & Shirley,
Thanks for your suggestions.
Please have a look at the album I posted "Romalotta"
I'm a novice and if it wasn't the many hours of generous help from Don Van Zandt and the suggestions and encouragement from people like yourselves within the sidecar community, I'd still be trying to figure out what the heck I got into (I'm sure my wife still isn't quite sure).
I'm thrilled with the final result both with the way it looks and rides. Still some final tuning at Don't shop this week and also waiting for the rains to stop to get out and ride.

It's a JAWA Velorex 560.

Just posted another photo of Romalotta. The next project is to add a windshield to it. I've got one ordered from Velorex USA but can't locate the brackets. Sidecar Pete was kind enough to send photos and dimensions of his.
Lonnie, thanks for getting the brake cable out right away.

After relocating the upper rear mount clamp and putting the lower rear mount
at 90 degrees to the frame the rig is behaving better and holding its settings.
Now another problem has popped up due to a set on La Franconi mufflers I've added. The lower rear mount doesn't clear the right side muffler due to the larger diameter of the muffler. I don't see an obvious way around this interference.
Please have a look at the last 2 Romalotta photos to show the problem..

Great job. I have shared your very nice outfit on Wildgoose for other Guzzisti to drool over.
