sidecar insurance
HI I was just wondering how you guys insure your sidecars. My insurance co. (progressive) says that my side car is an accessory and can only be insured if I put Full coverage on my bike(82 Honda CB1000) and then pay an additional fee to cover the car. I am not sure that the bike is worth putting full coverage on . I do want to make sure that any passenger in the sidecar is covered if I did get in an accident. Thank you for any replies. Brian
Full coverage is the only way to protect your passenger and yourself (from litigation). The Rated value of your Honda should keep the collision coverage end down but the personal injury liability will probably be the same regardless of the bikes value. I would suggest not leaving home without it if you have any personal assets or plan on having any in the future.
Thanks for the reply. I just realized I posted in the wrong spot. I was tired last night , meant to put it in general discussion. Later, Brian
I have illinois farmers....I had to submit a pic of the setup, and the value of the sidecar to my agent. It cost me no extra to cover the rig. It is NOT covered if it is disconnected from the bike...then homeowners covers it. Geico and progressive treated the rig like added custom equipment and boosted the price.
Tread Lightly with Insurance Companies.
Found this on Illinois Farmers + more.
