Hi everyone. Greetings from Denmark, Europe. I have been searching all over the internet for some answers, without any luck, and i came across this forum, and I hope you guys can help me out.
I am the happy owner of a California Sidecar Friendship lll, and im looking for a pair of seatbelts. On the manufactors website, i see that seatbelts are available for this model, but there a no pictures. My question is as following: Is the stock seatbelts for Friendship lll, 3 point seatbelts like in a car or is it just a waistbelt ?
What about mounting areas. Can they be installed out of the box, or do I have to do a lot of modifications to the body/frame to make them fit ?
And, last question: Approvals... Here in Denmark the authorities demand EU approvals for almost everything including seatbelts in vehicles. But I have found out that the US approval, something called FMVSS 209, is OK here too. Does anyone know if the seatbelts for the Friendship lll have this aproval ?

My Friendship 3 has lap belts only. Nothing fancy about them. They look like something that came out of a car, though thre gent I purchased from said he ordered them with the new car. I believe they just attach to bolts through the floor, but I will check tomorrow. The body is off of the frame right now so it will be easy to see.

The lapbelts used are the same USDOT approved quality as can be purchased from any auto supply outlet.
The belts should be attached to a frame member. Often the sidecar body mounting bolts are used to secure them.

The Packer game is over, they won as we expected, so I went out to look at the sidecar. The seatbelts are attached to the three bolts that attach the body to the frame.

In the process of mounting the sidecar body, I cleaned it out and remembered the extra seat belt. The PO ordered it to replace one that had lost the plastic piece that says "Press", but never installed it.. The replacement from California Sidecar is still sealed in a bag that says, W. Co. Chicago, IL 60612 #81-7209

Could that be the old Warshawsky Company? 🙂 Better known as J.C. Whitney?

The seatbelt itself says, Beams Industries Inc. OKC USA Model 1201 as do the two still in the sidecar. This one has a May 2000 date on it.

I think you're right on the source, Mike. And, Mikael, if you want to go with something more restrictive, check for 3 & 4 point belts from auto racing supply companies. There are many configurations you can adapt.
