I pulled a Kwik Kamp 5100 miles with my 07 GL1800, and actually somewhat improved my gas mileage, 41 mpg to 43 mpg. I suspect that was probably due to twisting the throttle a little more gently with an extra 300 lb. behind, and keeping my top speed about 65 by speedo, rather than running 5-8 mph over limit. I also have a Piggybacker that I pulled for just utility type stuff. hauling this and that.
I added Champion's hitch onto my VTX /Escort and setup and have pulled the Piggybacker with this setup, I haven't tried the Kwik Kamp with the VTX, as I haven't wired the VTX for towing, but have no doubt the bike is capable of doing the job, albeit without the kitchen sink inside the camper.

I asked Dave Hannigan on his recomendations for the trailer hitch and his answer was to keep the hitch mounted behind the bike, NOT on the sidecar frame, so that's where I kept my hitch. the SC frame is stout(Astro 2+2) but he specifically said to not mount the hitch on the frame...fwiw..Doc Wobblin

I've done it both ways. My Guzzi/Motorvation had two hitches, one behind the bike and a second on the sidecar frame. I kept it that way because I sometimes dropped the sidecar and rode solo.

I found absolutely no difference in handling or stopping between the two hitches. The only thing I did find was that when hooked to the bike, I'd be going down the road thinking I was close enough to the shoulder, when actually the trailer was over the centerline when I looked in the mirror.

Hannigan's statement is a,,I believe,, CYA statement, they make hitches for bikes,,they don't make them for sidecars which a lawyer would have fun with even tho there are a number of sidecars pulling trailers.

Hello again everyone. I returned home yesterday from having my new sidecar (classic) installed at Hannigan. I put it on my 2004 Electra Glide Classic. today was spent installing the new Hitch using the inside of the sidecar frame as a mounting point. I built it with a removeable reciever. I then loaded my wife into the car and hooked my Bunkhouse camper to the Hitch and went for a test ride. we rode for 41 miles and the whole rig handled fine. if anyone would like pictures of my Rig, or of the Hitch setup, just E-mail me at snapgadget@ftc-i.net and I will be happy to send them to you.

While my trailer is still in production, Tom had a spare or loaner I could use for a weekend. The design is fantastic! I could not tell that I anything attached to my bike other than the sidecar!! Depending on how up pack or how much you pack, stopping was very easy with the hitch directly behind the bike. I will have another chance labor day weekend. I have only one problem with the trailer....waiting for mine.

Hello all. I'm recently back from touring B.C. (just before the fires) on my K1200S/Hannigan SuperSport rig with home built trailer. I have the trailer hitch on the mounts at the centerpoint between bike and chair and had absolutely no handling issues in 5000km. On a rig I definitely would not hitch a trailer to the bike unless it was a single wheel narrow inline type. I do try and limit the weight of the cargo I carry in it and limit it to bulky lightweight articles like sleeping bags and such.
