Is it possible to modify Velorex 565 to suit two seats in-line...? The passengers would be one adult and one child.... The design of the 565 lends itself to removing the flip up front, adding a small front screen and a seat in front of the existing seat. I could also see using a couple of "U" shaped grab bars in front of each passenger...

Good idea...?
Bad idea...?
Why...?

Thanks,
Rob

I'd be concerned about putting too much weight forward of the centerline of the motorcycle/forward of the sidecar wheel, which could potentially create a tip-over situation in a brisk left hand turn.

Ooo, that would suck...

I'm trying to get around putting that dual seat rig on the Guzzi but that is a good thought.
Thanks,

Hi rob,

I modified a 700 into a two seater and it worked very well, but this was a modification into a two seater for two children.
I think for a modification adult/child the sidecar is to narrow.
A friend of mine put a very smal chair between the legs of the adult and that will work very well till a certain age/weight.
I think a 700 has more room for such an modification.

Greetings,

Ingmar

I've seen quite a few 700 models that were converted to tandem 2 seaters. Usually for children. The windshield is removed and the rear seat is at the back in the former boot area.
The same could be done with the 565.
I've also worked on a tandem URAL, where the boot was shortened and the enlarged cockpit was cut back and wrapped with 3/4" schedule 40 pipe. A small trunk lid remained on this one.

We started moving the seat positions around in the 565 a couple of nights ago, checking for proper clearances for two people in tandem. (one adult, one child) The flip nose was removed, seat moved back 4" and we placed a car seat in front of that passenger's spot... I will need to mount another small screen forward of the front passenger and add the necessary belt for that seat. We will fabricate the new rear seat and can convert the entire rig in minutes...

I'm also thinking of a couple of flip down tubular grab bars for each seat using latches similar to closet rod receiving "Cups" with latch pins and hinged on the other side... Swing up to enter and down to travel.

Stay tuned...

Low back racing seats like those sold by Summit Racing can also be easily adapted for a less bulky seat.
