Mixing tires...

The EV Hack has a Metzler Block "K" on the front, squared off tire, 3 ply rayon, I guess it is specific to rigs..? While swapping out the final drive gears I happened to notice that the rear tire is a Metzler ME Z 2, steel belted radial... ???

Is this a problem, mixing tires like this..?
Thanks,
Rob

I'm curious about this as well. The local dealer is recommending that I switch to a Dunlop 404 bias ply on the front of my Valkyrie, but I have a flat tread 205/16 radial on the back. I don't imagine it matters on a rig, but does anyone have experience with this? I'm also curious as to life expectency of a bias ply tire as opposed to a radial. Any difference?

I have used bias and radial at the same time on my Tiger. Sometimes it would be fine, sometimes i would get a wobble. I expect it would vary from rig to rig and from tread pattern to tread pattern. I was using Dualsport treads, conti and Metzler radials and sometimes Kenda K270 and trackmaster bias tires when i was mixing it up. Sometimes I was mixing worn and fresh treads as well. I think you would just have to try it to find out. No one will recommend mixing tire types, but sometimes it works ok.

Last Saturday I went out to the garage to find the bike sitting on a flat rear tire. (BFN=Very large nail) Pulled the wheel and took it and a brand new Twin tire I had on hand thanks to Jay in to the H-D shop and had it mounted and balanced. Then on Sunday Archie and I did about 300 miles on it. No ill effects what ever running the Twin on the back, an Avon Venom on the front and the Dunlop that came with the Liberty on it... A very fine day. Still sporting a sunburn. And saving the nail. It's now my lucky nail because I'd ridden on it from the looks of it but got home with it plugging the hole. The best place for a flat tire is sitting in the garage at home.

Yeah, And if you have to have a nail, the best place for a nail is in a tubeless tire. If I'm looking for nails, I take my Lo-Rider, It has cast wheels and tubeless skins.

Hope when you go on those nail hunts Lonnie, you don't get successful very often. I seem to find them on occasion without having to hunt for them. A couple years ago a buddy picked up a screw in his tire. He swears up and down he got it in my driveway. Must have had good eyes to see where he picked it up at. I never know where they start the ride, just where it ends!
