I'm sure with all the experience here someone can tell me the spindle size on a CJ sidecar or possibly a mag style wheel that will fit it without alteration?

Thanks

The CJ axle is 25mm, just a shade under 1".
A late Harley wheel for the 1" axle could work with the correct bearings. A bearing supply should be able to get you bearings to get from SAE 1" to Metric 25mm. Wheel width may be a problem.
Another option is to swap out the CJ axle for one that fits a wheel of your choice. Minor machine shop job.

Lonnie is right about the wheel width and then there's tire width, I had to find a replacement for the tire used on my Calf SC, the original size is out of production, they were used on ford Escorts and Yugo's, not many of those around anymore,,,Thank God,,it has a Harley style fender that has some width but even so the smallest tire that would fit my rim would hit the chrome fasteners on the inside and rubbed on the inner fender, after some modifying it all works but it was kinda touch and go for a while.

Thanks to both of you. I will look for a Harley rim but if I don't find one or if it is to expensive I know a machinist who works for a reasonable price and will have him make me a new axle. I never thought of that.
Thanks

The new axle route is good since the Harley 16" and 17" wheels need about 7" width to clear at the hub.

Some of the early 80s 1100 Kawasaki rear mag wheels use 25mm axles and have been mounted on CJs.

Thanks MC. There is a large motorcycle junk yard about three hrs frm me and they have a lot of old parts. I haven't made it there yet but will look at this option along with the others. When I get something done I will post and let everyone know what I ended up using.

To put harley wheels on a sidecar we do a conversion to allow 1" ID tapered roller bearings on a 1" custom made axle. It works quite well and takes away many concerns that can be related to the use of some motorcycle wheels.
If going to a motorcycle wheel with less than a 1" axle , depending on the actual width of the wheel hub, we typically go to a double sided swingarm system. The outside section of the swingarm is removable to simplify things. This gets a doiuble sided swingarm also.
